F stops are not the same as t stops. Look at the fuji 56mm apd, that has both f and the stops marked on the barrel.
You shouldn't expect any lens to get the same t and f stops. Very few achieve this.

drandyperry got a reaction from miguel in Shooting at f/11 on x-t2 and using Phase detect
    Hi,
Had a weekend shooting with my x-t2, 50-140 and 2x TC at Le Mans. My first sports application with the xt2. Loved the speed of it but I have one question.
It was very sunny, with the base iso of 200 (I was shooting raw +jpg so iso 100 didn't work) I was having problems slowing my shutter speed down to get background blur in the cars. If I went smaller than f/8 then my phase detect Af didn't work and it dropped down to contrast detection AF which wasn't fast enough to track the cars (I did try it).

Most dslrs will focus in with the lens wide open and then only shut the aperture down when the shot is taken. Is there a way to do this with the xt2? I'd be happy in mechanical shutter mode. I tried turning off exposure and wb preview but the lens still sat at its set aperture the whole time.

Any advice is appreciated. If it's not possible I'll invest in a couple of nd filters to allow me to do this.

    Thanks,
    Andy

I've not used the f/2 but the "performance" of the f/1.4 is fine. I can track my kids and they move pretty fast and erraticly!
It's nothing like the 35mm f/1.4 which is slow and clunky.
I find the rendering fine, not as good as the 35mm and 16mm f/1.4, but still fine.

If you have size, weight or money contestants is too for the f/2, if not get f/1.4.. I got the 1.4 to have that extra subject separation. Coming from full frame I was worried about more enforced depth of field with a smaller sensor. I was glad I went for a full suite of 1.4 glass for this reason alone.

I've not used the f/2 but, whilst I love the look of the 1.4, it is a bit slow and clunky to focus.
If you need to focus quickly, or need to track things around the frame the /1.4 has trouble keeping up.
Still I wouldn't change mine, the f/2 would result in about an f/3.2 depth of field equivalent on a 50mm. Not shallow enough for what I'm after.
I think it all depends on what you shoot!

My copy is perfect and pin sharp at f/2.8. Please post some examples and we'll have a look for you.

drandyperry reacted to AdamJOrange in Any reviews of the 16-55 (for 18-55 users)?
I was a long time 18-55 user before I got the 16-55.  It's very rare I actually miss the OIS, in most cases OIS is valuable when the shutter speed dropped below the 1/FL - and if I'm shooting anything that moves (people, streets, vehicles, foliage) I need 1/100s at minimum to have any chance at stopping blur - in those cases OIS was of no benefit, but the extra stop of light at 55mm on the 16-55 was.   In the end the biggest difference of moving to the 16-55 has been the complete edge-to-edge sharpness improvement wide open vs the 18-55, I have no hesitation using the 16-55 wide open at any time, whereas on the 18-55 I tried to stop down to f/5.6 whenever there was enough light.

If having the OIS is of primary importance, just keep the 18-55 in your stable and then you'll always have the option.  After a few months my 18-55 was just never getting used.

You should be able to do that on the X-T2. And the X-Pro2, X-T20, and X100F.

Be careful of blown highlights, though.

Looks like the triggers are not available yet for Fuji but as soon as they are, that will be great. Flash seems well built, not too big. Only takes 2 x AAs. Zooms with the lens. Need to try it out properly, but first impressions are good.

    No, I traded it in. Completely switched systems. Ended up getting x-t2, 16mm f/1.4, 23mm/1.4, 35mm /1.4, kit lens 18-55 2.8-4, Samyang 50mm /1.2, grip.

Loving it so far. Wouldn't go back if you paid me. Used it in studio, on location, with family.

    I'm a convert.

I have the 16 and the 35 f/1.4 and both are lovely lenses but the 16mm really stands out. Reminds me of the nikon 24mm f/1.4 in its quality.

I second that. I want a quick way to change af = shutter on and off and exposure preview in evf on and off, neither which are selectable on the q menu or on fn buttons.
