Rune Fredstad got a reaction from Curiojo in Concert Photography (open thread)
For the last year i have been shooting concerts with Nikon d4s and d750. Since everyone was going crazy over the X-T2, i thought i should check it out so i bought it with the 16-55mm f/2.8 and brought it to a show.

No doubt i was suprised as well as impressed, but there was three tings i really did not like.

The EVF and autofocus went crazy when there was a lot of backlighting and no frontlights; a familiar situation where my Nikon-gear never had a problem. It meant that i had to shoot "a different way" and it took some time getting used to. This was a concert with fairly good lights and i fear that the x-t2 will have a huge problem on darker show on a smaller venue.

The second problem i found was importing and working with the files in Lightroom; they are fare heavier than the Nikon-files and i used far more time both on importing and processing.

The third problem i found was the level of noise. Pictures taken on ISO 3200 to ISO 6400 had a lot of noise and as a result some pictues lost so much detail in certain areas that they were unusable. On the more positive side many of the underexposed pictures really shined when i pushed the exposure in Lightroom. Probably not the best solution against loss of details, but it's seems to be a viable option for concert photo.

It's to soon to conclude afte just one concert, but i am somewhat sceptial about the X-T2 for concert shooting. It's far better than i feared, but i really don't know if i can work with the focus-problems and the level of noise...
