  1. No, we're talking specific conditions. In perfect light conditions, low-mid ISO they are excellent. It's when light becomes poor and you crank up the ISO is where it falls apart imo. now playing around with shadow, highlight, noise reduction etc settings can have a big impact on your SOOC pics so YMMV but for me it's been very hit&miss whereas i can get way more consistent SOOC pics out of my 5D3 with minimum fuss. I shoot everything manual btw.
  2. Part of the SOOC Fuji magic seems to have been lost with the new sensor. The camera shop recently did a SOOC JPEG shoot out and were surprised how low Fuji scored and mentioned something about this Sony sensor not having that previous magic. I got the XT2 mainly for video but will admit to being severely underwhelmed with the stills, especially in low light (or even average lit conditions). I also find it renders very flat and poorly for architecture and landscape.. basically just decent for portraits imo.. then again i am new to fuji and come from a full frame background.. maybe with some better prime lens i'd get nicer results but i did have a X100T briefly and much preferred how that sensor (and lens combo) rendered out in general. my 0.2c
  3. I've always clicked the joystick to move points even on my 5D3. The advantage of the joystick imo isn't so much about speed vs D-Pad but the control you get with your thumb resting on it, especially when you're shooting at eye level. It's placement also feels more natural then having your thumb all the way down by the D-pad. Nikon suffered from this for years before finally caving in to a thumb level joystick with the D5/500
  4. Well aware of raw & post benefits. I shoot professionally with a 5D3 raw only. Like I said though, the aim with the XT2 for me is to have minimal post work done. It's my walk around / travel cam. Plus I'm going for a kinda "film camera" mantra: what you shoot is what you get! I hear you about keeping ISO low, I have to remind myself I'm not on a full frame. But again I was just trying to get rid of any in cam noise reduction polishing. I'd rather have noise/grain then waxy airbrushed image..
  5. Cool man, I get what you're saying. Indeed i think -4 looks nicer on B&W too. But I've got no issue with color although i also agree SOOC does run much cooler then let's say Canon standard. But you can always fix that in post. The waxy skin though is a different issue, where i believe Fuji applies intense smoothing above 6400 ISO. It makes the skin look kinda airbrushed, and that i'm afraid cannot be fixed later! Thanks for the feedback..
  6. ok i might try that, may i ask why NR-2 and not -4? i'd like to cancel noise reduction as much as possible. not sure i want to mess with white balance though, auto-WB is the best i've ever experienced on any camera (beats my FF Canon/Nikon)
  7. hi, new to fuji here with a brand new XT2. was reviewing the pics I took over the weekend on a 4K monitor and noticed the infamous waxy skin tones on high ISO portraits. noise reduction is set to zero, do I need to set it to -4 to fully bypass the wax effect? any other settings to mess around with? I don't mind noise/grain (actually find Fuji noise to have a filmic quality). also I'm not shooting RAW as the XT2 is purely for fun/travel/video and I'm all about the film simulations!
  8. The XT2 joystick is far from useless and is hundred times more useful then using a D-pad to move points. That being said i don't find it as speedy as on my 5D3 which has a "thumb joystick" and overall much better ergonomics for back button focus, single point maneuvering.
  9. New XT2 user here, it was brought to my attention I need to update the FW on the kit lens to fix the random image bounce you sometimes get in video mode. I found this page but it's rather cryptic with just a .DAT file and no instructions on the update procedure: http://www.fujifilm.com/support/digital_cameras/software/firmware/lens/xf18-55mm/download.html
