I don't think Fuji makes a fixed lens camera that's dust resistant. Best thing you can do is put on a UV filter (to prevent the AF motor from sucking in air/dust) and not store the camera in dusty/linty places (like pockets.)

kimcarsons got a reaction from nicu2 in X-pro 2 sooc waxy skin?
Part of the problem is that everyone has a different definition of 'waxy skin.'. For one thing this term seems to be used exclusively in reference to Fuji. When people talk about excessive noise reduction on other brands of camera they tend to use terms like 'smearing of details'.

Personally, I think that what makes the effect different on Fuji is just X-Trans (any generation). X-Trans requires a fairly heavy amount of chroma denoising/color smoothing (usually built into the demosaicking processing step) to remove false colors. Without this step, which Bayer demosaickers have historically skiped entirely (most Bayer sensors having AA filters), X-Trans images of skin would contain lots of green and magenta artifacts at texture edges. With it, skin tone is smoothed out. You'll notice that in comparisons between X-Trans and Bayer images, the veins in peoples eyes are always gray/flesh-tone in X-Trans and (correctly) red in the Bayer images. This is the kind of detail one loses with X-Trans. NR -4 brings back the luminance noise, but it doesn't really bring back the chroma detail.

All of this being said, it's still a somewhat subjective matter where personal preference plays a large role. And if you're not the type of person who zooms in to 100%, you may never even notice the lack of chroma detail.

Life is full of compromises, and if you want Fuji's sharpness (in lenses and sensor output), you may just have to decide to life with their sub-optimal CFA and camera ergonomics. (or wait for the Bayer medium format camera!)

Just wanted to share my observations. I've owned the X-T2 since september 2016, and I've pretty much been having lockups since day one - always in CH or CL. The lockups would freeze the camera completely, sometimes with a white EVF/LCD, and the green/orange LED being constantly orange. The only way to get it out of the lockup would be to remove the batteries in the grip.
At first I was using third party batteries in the booster grip (but the original NP-W126S in camera). Then I read it might be a battery related problem, so I bought two more NP-W126S. Didn't fix anything...
Then I read it might be related to my Lexar 64GB 150MB/s UHS-II cards, so I bought two new Sandisk 64GB 300MB/s UHS-II cards. Didn't fix anything either...!
At this point it started to get pretty expensive...
Scanned through every thinkable menu option and tried switching off "compressed raw". Well, I've been pushing my X-T2 all day now, shooting about 300GB of photos at 11fps, WITHOUT any freezing!
This could be it. I'll continue to test this, and get back to you.

kimcarsons got a reaction from TheWorldCan'tWait in Is it just me or the lowish light files are too noisy?
The film simulations on the X-Pro2 and X-T2 are a bit different than previous models. The auto exposure algorithm is different too. Noise in low light is slightly worse than the X-Trans I/II cameras. However, the noise reduction in the JPEGs does appear to be better. If you think the shadows are too dark, then why not set SHADOWS to -1? Or try the Pro Neg S film simulation (I find Provia to be a bit contrasty/garish myself.)

Unfortunately, for now anyway, all the new tech is bundled with the 24MP sensor. Personally, I'd love it if Fuji made a 16MP version of the X-Trans III sensor for better low light performance (actually, if I could really get what I want it'd be Bayer), but I don't think that's going to happen.

As for the plastic look, I keep the NR set to -2 or -4 (it's too bad there's no way to set this based on ISO like on other camera brands). Or you may try NR 0 to 2 with the NOISE EFFECT enabled... This produces similar levels of detail but with a less objectionable appearance to the noise. (again, it sucks to have to fiddle with this every time you change ISO...)

Also, don't forget the relationship between ISO and resolution. You may just need to accept that at 6400 ISO your X-T2 is an 6-8MP camera and print/display your images at the appropriate size.

Did you purchase your iphone new or used?  If you purchased it used, there is a good chance it has an aftermarket screen on it due to it being replaced at a non-apple repair centre.  The colours will be off.  I had one of my phones replaced at an apple certified repair business, but they offered a lower cost screen option which I took.  It was not a genuine apple product, but I thought if it did the job, that's fine.  First thing I noticed when I go the phone back is colours were slightly different.

Facts, experiences, and opinions with which you disagree do not constitute trolling. Nothing is perfect. If you want to throw a sarcastic tantrum every time someone points out some imperfection in Fuji equipment (or any other brand), you're going to spend an awful lot of time posting "Bugger. The camera is unusable. I will sell mine!" (which I see you already do). Why should everyone walk eggshells and tiptoe around the truth just because OleDK might get triggered?

Well, guess there's one of this kind in every forum. Wouldn't be a forum without one perfectly dumb answer in every thread. Look, Mr Manual, this is an AF acurracy test. If the camera can't focus on a static tree, then good luck with a running rabbit. Goodness me !!

Well now, that's funny. What was that "best of luck with your other cameras? I've shown you some "luck" with Canon, a DSLR that is, without that grid pattern flare, caused by sensor reflections it seems (because what sort of lens could produce such a grid?), which you do not believe. The sun i the frame, was for you "a freak way to photograph". So maybe my "misreading" was caused by your misspelling. But i do appreciate the entirely new tone and content of what you are saying now. =)

Regarding Fuji, i found that a aperture not smaller than f/9 is best, avoiding that flare grid pattern. Stopped down beyond f/11, the ugly grid shows more or less. Which is bothering, because with landscapes apertures smaller than f9 are pretty common. See attached comparison. In this instance even at f22 its kinda okay-ish, but its definatly something not to be ignored.

Well, you were criticizing him harshly for shooting against the sun, saying it's not the problem of the camera/lens, but the photographer. Right? Well, it think that is totally wrong.
Ok guys, sorry for the late follow up. Don't get me wrong, i am not talking about MY work, but about the world of photography out there, where the sun IN a picture is very very common and attractive. And the Fuji System has some issues with it. Mostly it seems, because of reflections between back lens and sensor. Here's a picture taken with my Canon. Any problems there, Milandro? I dont see any. Some flare is okay or beautiful. Some taken with Canon are worse, yes, but Fuji is a different world. That's the point of this thread now isn't it?

Sorry but you're being very very ignorant. Frankly, i'm wondering what you're shooting anyway, or at what level. Shooting into the sun is absolutely common practice for a variety of professional photography. Landscape, Outdoors, Tourism ... oh my. do i have to explain it? Never seen any commercials of this sort? Whereas regarding the brands, say Canon vs Fuji: the canon 17mm TSE for instance, creates a very clean and beautiful sun "star". Incomparable to the Fuji 10-24. Now i landed in this thread, because my 10-24 on the XT-2 creates lots of colorful dots, pretty bad. In very obvious repeating patterns. Nothing like may Canon 16-35 or 17. You know what? Ask around stock agencies or photogs, and they will tell you that "sun in the photo" sells A LOT better for certain motifs. Not to folks like you, of course. But please stop blathering. Dont ridicule photographers that do shoot into the sun!

Oh my goodness, here we go. Listen Mr. smart, i do understand depth of field and all. But. This question is about AF accuracy. Why is there AF anyway? If i point my camera at a tree, then the AF should just do it's job, and focus on that tree. Right? Because it is a tool. Why do you think i was in automatic mode? I was in manual. By the way, on many many shots in this series, f5,6 was way softer than f/4. Also had soft images with stopped down apertures. So again, this is about AF acurracy. And you know, sometimes we use an open aperture. And i'm used to AF tools that just focus on that focus point.

Consistency is all I ask for. But somehow Fuji managed to throw me for a loop. Having an X-T2, X-Pro 2 and an X-T20, they all behave the same when the units are turned on with the previous distance settings preserved.

But Fuji had to go ahead and put in a default setting of 7' for the X100F when powered on no matter what the previous setting was set to.

    Arrgrrggghhhhhhhh!!!! WTF!!!!

Noise isn't information. If you take an 8MP image, and upscale it, then add fake noise, you'll find at some point you've matched the (noisy) high ISO image of the same scene shot at 24MP, because the noise in the 24MP image was just that... noise. Not actually information from the scene. Or conversely, if you take a noisy ISO 6400 24MP image and start scaling it down, you'll reach a point where the noise becomes imperceptible (it averages out). This is why you never see noisy photos on instagram... The images there are only displayed at like 3MP.

People fall into this trap every time a new, higher megapixel image sensor comes out. They look at a 16MP ISO 6400 image at 1:1 and compare it to the 24MP ISO 6400 image at 1:1. That's not a valid comparison. If you downscale the 24MP image to 16MP, then maybe you can compare. But chances are nobody but the photographer will ever see the image at 1:1 anyway, they'll see some 3-6MP downscaled version on the web.

The moral of the story is: if you want to crop a lot or make a giant print (i.e. benefit from that 24 megapixels) then you're going to have to shoot at ISO 200. If you accept that you will only make smaller prints or only display on the web, then you can crank the ISO as high as you want (the higher you go, the smaller the dispaly MP you can support without the image appearing noisy).
