  1. I'm torn. I have 16, 23, 35 and 56. Taking more than 2-3 lenses out with me is overkill, I find. It means I have to carry a bigger bag and I start looking like 'the photographer' rather than just enjoying what I'm doing and having a camera with me. I take what I can fit in my Billingham Hadley Digital - a camera with a lens on and 1-2 extra lenses The 16 and 23 are definitely part of my kit But I can't decide between 35 and 56 I like natural photography, close to what the human eye sees, but I'm torn between which of those 2 lenses are most useful Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  2. I had the 18 and replaced it with the 14. Then I replaced the 14 with the 16. They all, broadly, can be used to take the same kinds of pictures. And they each have their own strengths and weaknesses. The 18 is the smallest and lightest, but the least wide. The 14 is the widest but the slowest. The 16 is fastest and weatherproof, but it's the bulkiest and heaviest. It's about finding the one that works best for your style. For me it's the 16 Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  3. I really liked my 14mm but I sold it to buy the 16mm. The 14mm is small(ish) and light and very sharp. But I wanted the extra couple of stops and the water-resistance of the 16. Here are some pictures I took with my 14mm: Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  4. I use mine for skateboarding. I've tended to use the 18mm or the 14mm lens. I think the pictures below were taken with the 18. I've just sold my 14 to buy the new 16mm f 1.4. A fast wide-angle is perfect for indoor action shots. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  5. Some things I've found useful on my little GoPro camera: - A faster interval mode - currently 1 frame per second on the X-T1. Double that would be good. - A 'burst mode' - 10-30 frames in 1 - 3 seconds, triggered by remote control - A dedicated wireless remote control, waterproof, rugged and wearable Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  6. A. don't tell her it's a new lens. Chances are it looks just like your other lenses to her. If challenged, say "what? This old thing? I've had it for ages." Just like she does with the shoes and handbags she buys. B. don't tell her how much it really cost. Underestimate the price by about 80%. In fact, just like she does with the shoes and handbags she buys. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  7. To add to my recommendation about getting the 16mm next if you already have the 35mm. After that, my next purchase would be an X100 of some kind. Which is essentially a 23mm F2 with a high-quality, pocketable camera attached, for the price of the 23mm lens. It will complement your existing camera and lenses. You can slip it into a bag and forget about it. Turn it on to silent and take pictures in places where you wouldn't normally think about doing it, and where you want to be inconspicuous. 8. Yes - I forgot to mention the water-resistance. The two dog photos above - one was taken with the camera held just above a stream, with the dog charging at me. The other was taken on a rainy day. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  9. These were all taken with the 16. Judge for yourself whether distortion is a problem. As for the max aperture, from my point of view it really helps when it comes to freezing action and hand-held photography in low-light situations - you get faster shutter-speeds. 10. If I could have only one lens it would be the 23mm. You can use it for pretty much everything, indoors and out. But if I had just the 35mm and I were given the choice of adding either the 23mm or the 16mm to my collection, I'd choose the 16mm. Together with the 35mm, those two lenses give you a huge amount of scope and variety, whereas the 35 and the 23 have a bigger area of overlap. Outdoors, head-and-shoulders portraits etc - that's your 35. Indoors, tight spaces, close-up action, fast-moving pets, landscapes - that's your 16. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  11. Nice dod. Nice picture. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  12. These are my actual lenses - and my wishlist 16mm f1.4 (I sold my 14mm f2.8 to buy it, and love it). 23mm f1.4 (wonderful all-purpose lens) 35mm f1.4 (haven't used it as much since I got the 23mm, but I'm pleased when I do) 56mm f1.2 (the only one I'm not 100% sure about. Great quality but it puts a distance between you and your subject, where I like to be close and involved - and the way it isolates the subject can mean you lose the sense of what's going on around them) Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  13. Well the one big thing that everyone is waiting for is the release of the X-Pro 2. My money's on that, rather than anything unexpected. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
