  1. I really love this photo of the locks! I used to visit there before I got into photography, and then moved away.
  2. imo your plan of 18, 27, 50 is solid. the 18 and 27 are different enough focal lengths, but they overlap a little in being the two Fuji lenses closest to a "pancake" (not that that's a problem!). if you wanted a wider aperture lens you could replace the 27 with the 35 1.4, and use that to complement the 18. or just get the manual focus Meke 1.7 for like $100 in addition to everything else the 50mm will definitely satisfy re: portraits, so I think you'll have a really nice range.
  3. Hi all. Just received my X-E3 and everything seems good ... except my up-to-date CC Lightroom can't seem to import the compressed RAW files directly from camera. It shows the thumbnails (shooting fine + RAW) but gives an error message after I try to import. I know the E3 is a new camera but the Fuji compressed RAW have been around for a while. Any ideas? One piece of info is that the memory card was not new; it had some older uncompressed RAW files too. Thanks.
  4. I've never used a camera with IBIS before. For those who have, or who know more about it, I wonder what is realistically achievable with the technology? For example, with my 35mm f2, I'll usually set shutter speed to a minimum of 50 or 60 shooting handheld in low light, to be safe. I know this is totally speculative, but how low could I hope to set that with IBIS?
  5. one more newbie question (it appears to be my forum rank after all): the XE-3 is the first Fuji X product I'll be ordering new when released. so logistically, when it's rumored that the product will be announced in September, does that announcement date mean that is when the product is available for pre-order? does "announcement" mean that it will suddenly be in stores immediately after it becomes official? or is the announcement date different from the in-stores date? thanks for clarification on this.
  6. Patrick, do you think there's a chance the XE-3 announcement will coincide with a lens announcement, like the 18 mm f2? Or is that unrealistic thinking? Thanks!
  7. I own the 35mm f2. It was my first Fuji lens and remains my most used lens. That said, I borrowed my friend's 1.4 and what people say about the rendering of the images is true. I don't think you can go wrong with either, and there are clear advantages of the f2. But the character of the 1.4 is special. I've read others say they prefer the IQ of the f2, so like everything, it's subjective. Personally I hope to own the 1.4 someday soon. It's my favorite focal length and would complement, rather than make redundant, the f2.
  8. these are really lovely! I'm curious: what iso and ss were they shot at? were you handheld or using a tripod? inspiring work!
  9. I hope this makes the roadmap sooner rather than later! Is partnering it with XE-3 release too unrealistic? I've been thinking about the original 18mm F2 and 27mm pancake as options for a minimal size carry-around camera. Something I can put on my XE-2 and actually fit semi-comfortably in a coat pocket. I'm holding off on buying either in hope the 18mm mk II keeps size a priority (and keeps the aperture ring too!). To me, IQ and autofocus upgrades are of course important, but not if it means the 18 mk II grows to the size of the 23mm F2.
  10. hey flysurfer. what is the sister forum you mentioned? I'm a little clueless!
  11. jestuber, just wanted to say thank you for sharing your first impressions!

  13. Thank you for your review! I'm interested in the lens, being a fan of the other recent F2s, but am unsure in how this would fit in. And there isn't a ton of opinions out there yet. Just reading some other forum comments, people seem a little lukewarm on it, feeling like the focal length isn't quite suited for portraits, like it's a weird middle child. Bjorn, do you feel like for shooting portraits the 50mm is a strong upgrade from the 35mm F2? Seems like the focal length should improve bokeh automatically? I'm weighing the lens against the first generation 60mm F2.4. The autofocus and build of the 50mm is appealing to me, and obviously I don't mind the extra light. But I wonder if I'm missing something...
