Is it some kind of Macaque, its obviously something with a very powerful jaw with that muscle ridge down the back of the skull.

    Soo... let me try:
It's not feline, that's where I'm sure, and I'm completely sure it's no bear.
What's left are the canines. No fox, probably no dog... that's why I'd say some kind of wolf, maybe. But the nose looks too short, there are teeth missing behind the (very large) canines, and... I don't know, maybe I need to think again.

    Wi and Quincy,

This was the briefest and most hilarious scientific discussion between two experts that I have seen so far. Do you have any more of that stuff ? And what happened to that brownie ? I want to see that (I have no idea what that is, I must google it).
btw beautiful subjects for photography on your Bali Charm site.

    Cheers guys

Quincy, you're on the money. And exactly why it's darker. You won... It's a mammoth molar. I will photograph your virtual brownie tomorrow and post it here for you... My best, Wi.

You're very, very close. You're an expert. This is very close. One more guess before tomorrow morning and you receive your free virtual brownie... if you're right... :-) :-)

Thank-you for the big compliment, Warren
Hello guest! Please register or sign in to view the hidden content. Weight: 565 gm Length: 65 cm Width: 10 cm Depth: 5 cm But yes, I agree with you: looking at it now with your eyes, it is difficult to understand size just by looking at the photographs. Some people put a coin next to an object, but we decide not to do that - I think that takes away from the object itself? We may be wrong... We will also re-photograph this kris when we write our blog article about them - we have about 20 still in the workshop, with four finished. This one is different because it's an original nickel-iron blade from the 1800s. Our others are contemporary Damascus-style blades made on next door Java island, with the handles carved from ebony wood and a bit of mammoth ivory... I will post later

Absolutely stunning...Suggestion: on the 2nd image,  I think that Ganesh's eye should are the focal point, not his knee...I'd also like to see something in the image to give a sense of scale, is this the size of a letter opener or a broad sword??

Bali Charm got a reaction from Begi Nabara in Antique 19th century comb carved from water buffalo horn from Sumba island, Indonesia
Our never-ending product shoot - 71 down, 280 to go. This time an antique 19th century comb carved from water buffalo horn from the island of Sumba in Indonesia. Shot first on a piece of wet ironwood for a bit of drama, and then in our usual teak bowl for a bit of contrast. Enjoy...

Bali Charm got a reaction from frankinfuji in Nantan meteorites close-up...
Trying to squeeze the most out of my X100 during the meteorite product shoot. The items are small - between 4 and 7 cms - and shooting at a distance of 13 cms still doesn't give me enough detail. So a 30% crop. A bit of a hack, but they're always only going to be screen-only. Glad I've got 4288 pixels to play with

Thank-you for approving my request to join the forum. We're using a 5-year-old Fuji X100 to shoot a large amount of inventory in our shop in Bali, Indonesia. Lots of mammoth tusk carvings, ancient flint blades, antique wooden carvings... and our meteorite collection. So far so good: 45 products finished out of 335... :-)

Looking forward to meeting you, sharing our results, and hoping for some tips and feedback....
