Trying my new Westcott Apollo 28 Modifier seeing what I could do with a cheap speed light and some positioning.  X-T1, 56 1.2.  Just playing around having fun.

Nice picture.  I just ordered my 23mm f1.4 today and eagerly awaiting it's arrival.

The focal lengths would be great, but I'd keep the 35mm - 23mm is wide enough that you can get some dramatically skewed perspectives if you're shooting vertical portraits. I avoid using the 23mm for vertical portraits unless the situation is just too tight for the 35mm.

Also, I own the 23mm, and while it's great, I wouldn't bother getting it on top of an X100 unless you specifically need the faster aperture for low light. I definitely wouldn't get the 23/1.4 strictly for image quality purposes - I shot a wedding with a friend who has an X100S, and there's very little real-world difference between the two. And that's coming from a photographer; unless your clients are in the media industry, they'll never notice.

I shoot weddings, and use the 23/1.4 wide open quite a bit, but if it weren't for that, I'd prefer an X100 for the leaf shutter. The leaf shutter is more valuable for portraiture IMHO, especially since you mentioned you're investing in lighting gear.

Also, as nice as it is to carry one body, if you're going to be carrying multiple lenses and lighting gear anyway, you likely wouldn't even notice the addition of the X100, and having two bodies means less changing lenses, which is nice if you're outdoors or would be bouncing between a couple focal lengths frequently.

I think this almost entirely depends on the type of photography you do.  A portrait photographer is likely to answer much differently than a landscape or travel photographer.

I'm trying to learn off camera lighting.  I used a 60 inch Photek Softlighter with an Einstein at 1/64 power camera left boomed high as a single light triggered with CyberSync.  Savage thunder gray seamless backdrop.  I over processed retouching probably in LR but was more concerned with getting the lighting correct than the portrait edits.  Hard to take a pics of yourself using the self timer.  X-T1 with 18-55.

I've used both.. And I feel that both of the 23mm have a very clinical way of rendering things. I've not used the 14mm, but I have the 56mm and that magic you speak of I've only ever really seen in the 35mm f1.4. Just my personal experience

I've not used the f/2 but the "performance" of the f/1.4 is fine. I can track my kids and they move pretty fast and erraticly!
It's nothing like the 35mm f/1.4 which is slow and clunky.
I find the rendering fine, not as good as the 35mm and 16mm f/1.4, but still fine.

If you have size, weight or money contestants is too for the f/2, if not get f/1.4.. I got the 1.4 to have that extra subject separation. Coming from full frame I was worried about more enforced depth of field with a smaller sensor. I was glad I went for a full suite of 1.4 glass for this reason alone.

Therapeuo63 got a reaction from olibe in Printing - Does the extra 8mp make a difference?
It depends on a few things...amount of cropping, size of print, post processing involved, monitor calibration and quality of printer. etc. I think the answer is yes, but does it matter? I've seen spectacular 24x36 inch landscape prints from a 12 MP Nikon D90. At 11x14 for example I see no difference in print quality (resolution detail that is) between my old Nikon D90 and my current D7100 with twice the resolution. I think it also depends on subject matter too and landscape photographers that make big prints are probably more demanding than say, a portrait photographer. Sadly, many photographers rarely make big prints....but demand high megapixel counts for images that will sit on a hard drive and never encounter the ink of a printer.

The megapixel wars ended a long time ago but I'm sure the engineers and brick wall photographers may beg to differ,

I realize the OVF has some advantages but am wondering why the X-Pro2 costs more given the X-T2's specs/features seem to be getting the nod in a number of areas...video, tilt screen, better EVF, button layout, dual card slots both high speed, battery grip, speed, etc.  Is it a form factor thing?

Try using it without auto DR turned on, as this can introduce noise and reduce contrast, especially if the camera selects DR400 mode

Wow, what a great review.  I would love to try the X-Pro2.  Once I can corral the funds I think I may just rent one for a day and run it through the paces.  For a camera I plan on using for at lest 4 years or so it might be worth it to pay a days rental to make sure it fits.  I like the form factor of the Pro1 so much...fits in my hand perfectly and I don't feel the need to have to add a grip or anything.
