More than anything I would be thrilled if I were you (and I'm sure you are) that your kid enjoy photography.
I hope my 2 sons (or atleast one of them) who ar only 4 and 1 now will pick up photography too when they get older

18-55 is a great lens, but almost boring because it's so versatile. You will enjoy the challenge and adapt to only shooting primes in due time, and after a while you might not even miss the 18-55

That sounds like a healthy and smart way to do it. I might steal that idea in the future

Now that's the key point of difference. The f2 employs the laws of physics to produce a compact, high quality lens, whereas the f1.4 uses magic. A friend at Fuji Japan told me in confidence that Fuji use glass from the Eye of Sauron for the front element of the 1.4. I'm certainly not parting with my precious f1.4.

The 18-55 was my first Fuji lens for the X-E2, but after getting the 27mm, the 35f1.4 and the 60mm, the 18-55 has rarely been used.

It's a great kit zoom, but somehow I prefer the images from the primes.

frankinfuji reacted to Greg7579 in Hey Guys -- Is This a Good Fuji X Forum?
Hi Guys, I'm a travel photographger from San Antonio, Texas and have been shooting at a passionate level since I was 15.  I am 60 now.  I switched from a lifetime with Canon and Nikon (at various stages) to Fuji almost 4 years ago, or the day the XT-1 came out, whenever that was.  I own almost all of the Fuji X lenses except for the Brick (which I admit is a good bag of primes and a fine lens, but I have decided not to like it because it reminds of my many Canon Ls), and I spend some spare time on the DPR Fuji Forum helping newbies and irritating the other pros.
Well, I guess I'm not a pro because I don't charge money for my work.  I only spend money on it.  Lots....

I think I am going to look around this forum a bit and see if I like it.  I honestly didn't know about it.

I don't hide my images and they are free for the taking.  There are a few thousand XT-1 and XT-2 images posted here on my Flickr page using any one of about 12 XF lenses.  You can have a peek if you are bored.  They are organized into Trip Albums.  I travel a lot and shoot.

I have strong opinions founded on decades of experience and a love for the awesome Fuji.  I am not supported by or compensated by Fuji in any way.  Same user name as on the DPR Fuji X Forum.

I don't really like this forum being broken down into each camera type because there is a lot to be leaned from the XT-2 / XP-2 crowd and the reverse is also true.  In fact, the best (and most famous) pro portrait photographer I know uses the XT-10 on travel and borrows lenses from me.

Anyway, I might start posting here.  I don't troll Canon and Nikon forums.  I don't venture over there and tell them why I switched and why they should.   Although it is tempting at times....  So much I could tell them.

frankinfuji reacted to Nero in 18-135 mm or 55-200 mm lens?
I had the 18-135mm and sold it. It's not a bad lens, but it's not a great one either. Whenever I was shooting something where I specifically wanted a longer focal length, the 135mm was rarely enough. Also, the 55-200mm has exceptional image quality. I shoot 90% of my photos with primes, but the 55-200 never disappoints me in sharpness or overall image quality. It doubles as a decent portrait lens too if you open up the aperture, zoom it, and step back a bit.

I would also say that if you enjoy landscapes, the 55-200mm is something I never go without for landscapes. It seems counter-intuitive at first, but a moderate telephoto zoom can get you great landscape photos in specific environments. I've shot the Swiss Alps with the 10-24 and the Cascade Mountains with the 55-200 and got great images in both cases. Excellent and underrated landscape tool.

I think it depends where you want to show your photo?

If you want to have your own album to group your photos, then create a new one. I don't think you'll get any views or comments in the Albums, as people look at the threads rather than the Albums.

Just got my 35mm f 1.4. I find the AF not that slow and not that noisy either. i guess with all the talk about those issues, my expectation was different.
Sure is a magical lens. The IQ and the color are fantastic in the same league  of the 90 mm

I'm not at all sure what you're asking. Autofocus and metering are separate functions. The only time they interact is if you have:
Single-point AF Spot metering Face detection OFF Interlock Spot AE & Focus Area ON (manual page 96) If you have all four of those conditions, then the spot being metered will be at the selected AF point. Otherwise, spot metering always looks at the center of the image.

    Get the Xt2 and 18-55.

The body is a significant upgrade on the xt1, especially focus ability.

You will add extra lenses later when you decide what you need, and the body will keep you happy for several years.

Also, the 18-55 is an excellent lens that will cover all needs except long telephoto. I also think extra lens are a distraction and an unnecessary additional variable when getting to know a new body. Take the 18-55 to its limits before you decide on your next lens (which will be prime by the way!).

And final thought.... the 16-55 is just too big!

I love, love, love my 35 1.4   Those new 23, 35 and 50 F2 lenses may be faster focusing and (supposedly) sharper as told to us by all the paid shills on the inter webs, but I don't give a crap.  I LOVE my 35 1.4.  Won't part with it.  The images are just phenomenal, clear, and oh so "zen like"  Yeah.  I said it.  That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Oh:  And those F2 lenses are BUTT UGLY.  and yes that does make a difference to me.

Thinking that others may want to know and thanks to Jim Kasson told me, under Image Count in RawDigger will show the shutter clicks also the EFCS but not ES, so they have a free trial so cool way to get an idea on the shutter clicks! Also, works with an RAF image!

Check it and sure enough, I now can check the shutter count on the used GFX I ordered.
