Why would you have made a bad choice there ? You obviously know your way around a camera and if the M9 pleases you and you have the money to spare for it, why not pick it up and enjoy it ?

darknj got a reaction from merosen in Ken Rockwell X-T2 Review... X-T2 not really for Pro's
Still, the X-T2 is a good camera, I just really don't like the fact that you need the extra battery grip to unlock the full potential of the camera, while on the other hand Olympus just released a new camera that is so impressive that makes every single other one from their company look like flying pieces of turds.
The X-T2 essentially feels like a slightly upgraded X-T1, I feel no need to buy it, it doesn't change much of from the X-T1 to value the extra money in it. Plus, the X-T1 still remain an excellent camera, it has a few weaknesses in faster moving subjects but ISO stuck at 6400 but that aside, it really is an enjoyable camera.

Buyer's remorse? Essentially it's just higher mpix, slightly faster AF and oh....the turbo charged battery grip.

Thanks for this. I thought there were working models in the hands of testers.

Thanks darknj. I am now leaning towards just getting a Fuji 35mm lens.

It's an early beta version, they will never allow any SD card anywhere near that model at this point, I was at the Sigma booth to get physical in touch with the 85 F1.4, the 12-24 F4 and the 500 F4 and I had to negotiate quite a bit with the Sigma representative to mount them onto my camera and had to physically taken out all the cards in the body before I could snap at anything.
And the Sigma lenses are pretty much production ready at this point, the GFX still has quite a bit of road to walk before it even gets there.

Just be aware that you will lose the aperture control since there are no connectors between the Nikon F mount and Fuji XF.
There are no smart adapter for the time being, so all of them are only various level of plastic/aluminium quality and shouldn't cost you more than 20$ most of the time.
In all honesty, I would rather use the Fuji 35 lens, first of all, it will be smaller and light than any other contraption you could find. You wouldn't lose the AF nor the aperture control either. And the 35 F1.4 is still one of the most beloved lens on the Fuji, you will not go wrong with it.

I'm happy to report that on the X-T2, the camera plate no longer blocks the battery compartment, for those who should be interested.

darknj got a reaction from aivihc in Memory Card + Travel
If I have to travel super light but still need to backup my photos, I have a 500 gb SSD in an USB powered case and use my RAVPower Wireless Card Reader to transfer the data around. That is usually sufficient for quite a long time for me and doesn't require too much space.
As for SD cards, I always have 3 high speed (80+ mbps) 64 GB cards along 2 slower class 10 micro SD cards with converters at 32 GB each.
All that is stored in a Peak Design Pouch along a couple of USB cables, a Fuji traveler USB charger for the batteries, a couple of extra batteries and a Pocket WiFi and a 2 ports wall charger.

There have been some slight advances in their G line lenses, mostly overpriced F2.8 zoom lenses and maybe a 85mm prime for portait but yes, it is still severely lacking, there are lot of primes that overlap with others since Zeiss is also making lenses for them.
The number of available lenses is really important when you are going into a camera system, I have to admit that m4/3 got me really interested due to vast amount of lenses with a lot of them being primes but Fuji won me over with the X-T1.

Hi X-shooters,
I had the chance to shoot the new Fujifilm XF23mm f2 lens, which was announced today. Those interested can check out my review here: http://bjornmoerman.blogspot.ae/2016/08/first-look-fujifilm-xf23mm-f2-r-wr.html
Happy to answer questions here or on my blog!

darknj got a reaction from sadomasajista in Ok, Fuji...You win. I'll shoot JPG! ;-)
Try shooting at DR200, it would bump your ISO at 400, but considering the X-T1 sensor, that's hardly an issue. Your JPEGs will look a bit more dramatic too.

darknj reacted to jlmphotos in XF23mmF1.4 or XF23mmF2 WR - POLL
Simple solution which I use ALL THE TIME: I keep large Zip-lock bags on every trip i make. When I'm going in to a cool car, or room, or exiting an A/C'd car or hotel room, I place the camera and lens(es) in zip lock bags. Presto: zero condensation/fogging
I've used the non-WR lenses in freezing rain, snow, and literally had them covered in wet sand and salt water (from my wet and sandy hands) and to this day, no problems.
Maybe many of you guys are new to photography, but back in the day, when dinosaurs roamed the earth, I used Minolta cameras and glass and shot, a lot, in Alaska (where I lived) I never, ever had a lens or body damaged by snow, ice, sleet, fog, or cold. Ever. As a matter of fact, less than a year ago I sold all my Minolta glass on fleabay and it was still all perfect and I'm not a person to baby equipment. To me, they are just tools, like a car mechanic uses his/her wrenches. Nothing else.

darknj got a reaction from Hermelin in XF23mmF1.4 or XF23mmF2 WR - POLL
It is mostly to stay extra safe, with those weather conditions getting in and out of building with airco turned on full blast, it can deter the camera from taking a correct picture.
That plus the occasional sudden rain that appears out of nowhere, I know that if I have a WR lens out when it starts raining, I don't have to rush for cover immediately, the camera is able to take some water on it and be fine about it.

If you do get one, can you please let me know afterward ? I have been wondering about it but mostly for storage purpose, I would prefer them to be separated when traveling, less chances for the lens cap to break in the bag.

darknj got a reaction from johant in FUJIFILM will develop an XF 8-16mmF2.8 WR lens
First of all, it's a rumor. By definition that means it is really not certain that they are going to release anything or if they are even working on it.
Second point, lens development takes a long time, the rumors of that 23mm F2 have been around for almost a year now, and we very recently got some glimpse of it.
That lens rumor start in June, that's not even a quarterly yet. There is no way they would have a finished product yet, at best, they might have a prototype and could be moving into field testing within the next quarterly or maybe early Q1 next year.
Long story short, take some patience and wait for it. Fuji has to release a fully fleshed out triumvirate of F2.8 "pro" lenses and they are aware of it. There are no need to rush for it as alternatives exist, even native from Fuji.

Still waiting for that 23 F2 lens to get unveiled and have some reviews of it appears before I go and try it out myself, but there is a very good chance that I will be buying it on the spot.

Just spend some time searching for it and it seems that my memory was playing games with me, it was a 3D printed double lens holder:

darknj got a reaction from Hermelin in If you have the 18-55 and the 35 f/2 what would your third and final lens be
The XF 90 is really a beautiful lens, I prefers its rendering over the 56 F1.2 for portraiture work.
While the AF speed is much higher than the 56 F1.2, I am not that certain of its speed if you have kids running around and actively trying to dodge your photo taking. Also, the focal length means you have to be further away, like a good 3m away if you want wider waist level shots for most adults.
It's not an easy focal length to get used to, at least not for me.

darknj reacted to milandro in Difficult to compose with XF 14mm f2.8?
Everything needs learning, cameras don’t take pictures on their own, especially professional cameras don’t! Maybe I don’t find this difficult because I’ve been doing this for 35 years. On a 35mm I used routinely a 15mm so a 14m (or the 10-24 I’ve used and the 12 mm that I do use now) doesn’t make me think it is any difficult to use.
This is a 10mm
