I placed a pre-order today for 2 X-T2 bodies with the battery grips.

I'll sell my X-T1 and keep my X-Pro2. I really like the X-Pro2 and in particular the button layout. However, the advantages of the tilting screen, better video, connectivity, far more shots without changing batteries with the grip, tethering, 2 fast card slots and a bigger EVF etc decide it for me. The 2 X-T2 bodies will be my 'work' cameras and the X-Pro2 an enjoyable change of pace.

a 75-85 Micro that is 1:1 will be fine with me. I likely would prefer that to the 120 anyway... I just hope it is not too far away

    The other lenses I would like are a 70 1.4 and a 16-80 f4 OIS

It was a simple question... and (IMO) it is on topic. I'm not going to buy a 300/f2 Fuji lens for sports photography. I guess hardly anyone would. If I were doing sports photography, I'd be using Nikon or Canon. Their high speed AF is better... At that level of investment I would not risk otherwise.

I find Ken's reviews helpful... not so much his personal conclusions, but the info he provides. When I first tried my X-Pro2, I discovered the same thing. The auto brightness on the EVF is crap. It goes from washed out to too dark. I turned it off and have left it off since.

He is also right about the area af focus. I mostly shoot single focus point because it too often gets it wrong.

I read a number of X-Pro2 reviews that did not mention these things. His review of the good and bad about the X-Pro2 is accurate. Now all his stuff about who a pro is, what they want, and his subjective conclusions, I mostly consider to be noise in otherwise useful reviews.

If I were going traveling not sure whether I would take 2 bodies or not. For lenses... 10-24 is a must for me. I'd leave the 50-140 home (too heavy though such a pleasure to shoot with)... maybe I would take the 55-200 for reach... and I would for sure take couple primes. 16 or 23 and 56. It would be hard to leave the 23 1.4 home, but I think I'd pick the 16 because it can focus really close.

So the 10-24, 16, 56 and 55-200... or instead of the 55-200, a point and shoot that had some telephoto reach...

deva got a reaction from bharatdalal in Color inaccuracy of EVF vs LCD (X-T2 vs. X-T1)
The X-Pro2 has a decided bluish cast to the EVF compared to the LCD... bothers me... especially because I mostly use the EVF and it does not match the LCD or what I see with my eyes. On the X-Pro I keep EVF at 0 and LCD also 0... both manual

With the X-T2, the EVF is a bit brighter than the LCD. With the X-T2 it seems EVF on manual is too inaccurate and so far I am keeping EVF brightness on Auto.

With custom WB carefully set and then looking through the EVF and then at the scene itself, the X-T2 EVF seems satisfyingly color accurate to me. The LCD does seem slightly warmer but I need to do some more tests specifically testing them under different lighting.

That sounds about what I would expect. Fuji does have an advantage of not having its own full frame camera to compete with. If Fuji can come in with an aggressively priced offering, they do not have to worry at all about cutting into their own sales.

For me, I'm curious what the main focus of the camera (assuming it materializes) will be. Would it primarily be a studio camera? If so, it is not of much interest to me. But if they make a small and light (relatively) rangefinder that handles well in the field, that really gets my interest. The X-T1 is about 40% lighter than a D7200. A Fuji Medium Format Rangefinder could end up similar to a Nikon 810.

I loved my Pentax 67. I used it all the time on field assignments, even doing quite a bit of aerial photography with it... manual exposure, manual focus and all. Those big Velvia slides looked lovely!

I'd love to see a modern take on that by Fuji with some of that exceptional Fuji glass.

deva got a reaction from Aswald in Will Fujifilm Make The Same Mistake?
If Nikon had a solid set of APS-C lenses, I may never have switched to Fuji. The Fuji lens lineup is unmatched in APS-C. The lenses were the primary motivation... then liking the aperture ring on (most) lenses and the old fashioned dials on the X-T1. Small and compact when desired is also of value. But it was the excellent lenses that decided it.

I am out shooting events all the time and so I see lots of quality cameras many of which have accessory battery grips that can be purchased. A large majority do not have the grip.

Right now, with the X-T2 brand new, a few more people may buy the grip who do not need it, but they will quickly leave it home or even sell it and after the initial buzz, not nearly so many people will buy it. It is costly, relatively heavy to carry and not much use for many people. That will win out.

Then they will go back to having one of the best small cameras in the world

I ordered the X-T2 plus grip... it is easy to take it off and have a small camera with a compact prime for walking around with... same as before. Now you have the option of putting the grip on for when speed is needed. Seems complimentary to me... rather than contradictory.

I don't care much about the 24 MP... it does give some more cropping room, but it also makes bigger file sizes.

The joystick is fantastic. (On the X-Pro2) and I find the lack painful on the X-T1. Big selling point. The grip with 2 extra batteries for when I am shooting street events means less battery changing. I appreciate that but it is not so bad to change batteries. Better video... and not just 4k. Definite selling point for me if it is good enough that I do not need a separate video camera.  2 Card slots is a big one for me for upgrading from the X-T1 Blackout on the X-Pro2 is much less than the X-T1. The relatively long blackout of the X-T1 bothers me. I expect the X-T2 to be as fast if not faster than the X-Pro2 General speed of the X-T1 is kinda slow. Turn on, wake up, blackout etc. X-T2 is significantly faster.  Faster AF on X-T2 matters to me for sure. Better buttons and doors also matters to me.  The speed with the grip means I can shoot fast changing events more effectively and yet I can take off the grip, and go out walking with a prime lens and still have the light compact camera with exceptional IQ and capability. Best of both possibilities! So once my X-T2's arrive (pre-ordered 2) I'll sell my X-T1 and keep the X-Pro2

deva got a reaction from Curiojo in Old Sensor / New Sensor...Same Look?
I've been using the X-T1 and X-Pro2 together while out shooting various events. There is no significant difference between the look of the images from both cameras. Making a photo gallery of mixed images, it would be hard to tell the difference under most situations.

Like aceflibble said, the X-Pro2 has some improvements in handling red and I agree with his other comments too... None of the changes are big as in images shot with both immediately stand out.

If you use jpegs, then there are small differences in at least some of the film simulations. I have not done any meticulous testing (and likely never will) but my sense when shooting both is that the WB and exposure calculation are slightly different in the 2 cameras so those are other variables which affect how images look.

I shoot raw and jpg and sometimes use one or the other.

the 16 also has closer focusing and can function as something of a macro lens... works great for flowers for example.

For the OP... I'd likely get the 23... the 12, 23 and 56 is a nice spread.

I love the 16... so would have a hard time leaving it behind. :-)

There is no way I would trade the 23/1.4 for a 23/2... the 23/1.4 is a fantastic lens and it just does not feel big or heavy to me at all. I find the size on my X-T1 to be perfect... balanced, agile and a pleasure to use. Plus I love shooting at 1.4
