  1. HI Kendra and from an Ex-Kelownite - Welcome (I now live in WInnipeg) I have both an E2 and T1, the E2 is by far my favourite and once you settle into its quirks I am certain you will enjoy it no end. For the record though, the rumored 4.0 firmware update is unlikely to be seen before mid January 2016 if the more reliable sources are correct. Enjoy - Bradley
  2. Ultimately, Virtuoso (OP) was correct - Leica are in fact ARGUABLY the best lenses... lol
  3. ...and all this without need for a lenshood!
  4. With all due respect, this is a bit of an overstatement... The Minolta Maxxim was the first integrated (the self contained AF lenses were horrible and not worth the mention) AF camera to hit the market and it did so in 1985. AF was largely scoffed at for the first couple of years and even then, professionals saw it only as a novel innovation that eventually might have it's place... but likely never for the serious pros, they would always use manual focus (lol). Time brings improvement when innovation rests and the concepts of AF did improve and rapidly, but I would suggest that it was the mid 90's when it really started to become functional; there will be exceptions of course. I do agree though that we are not only shooting far more, but the construction of lenses has become far more complex. The early AF lenses had very little in them other than a drive linkage (motors were still in the camera body) and there was no such thing as meta data to be transfered so all logic was in the body. Now we have moving elements for either IS or floating elements to improve focsing performance. Moving parts break... a lot. I don't think the failure rates are all that high though all things considered, I used to shoot Leica M and I was constantly sending in my lenses and bodies to have the focusing recalibrated. Regardless of your opinion of that brand, they are very well made products but it's about moving parts here, not quality control. Just my thoughts
  5. "Point that thing at me again and you'll die in your sleep" My Wife...
  6. This i s deeply offensive.... Ace has gone to great lengths to not only perform an objective test but, in true scientific form, has shared his results, methodologies and rationale as well. You (Surfer) however have countered with nothing short of curt posts with nothing to back your claims other than "You Should Read My Book" which is not even available yet! One does not require an entire book to counter Ace's data! Opinions can either become fact, through scientific challenge, or be disproven by the same process. You points so far are nothing more than a marketing ploy and have no place in scientific discourse regardless of the subject matter. It's too bad really, as it may very well be that your book will be a worthy purchase, but I for one will not be buying it. It is not constructive to be rude, condescending, or dismissive in order to illustrate a counter point or logical argument.... just be fair and back your claims in the same manner as your colleague. I possess a degree in sensitometry, and so far I aggree with Ace. This is not to say he is correct, just that he is the only one that has produced quantifiable data.
  7. You are correct you never said that but your implication was quite strong. There is no 'whatever' in using the Zone system and no zones are left to take care of themselves. The whole point of the Zone System is to measure and account (with a high degree of predicatability) for all the exposure values within the image area. Also, I do not mean to insult or offend and apologize if I have, but your statement was neither complete nor correct so I would expect and welcome the same from you as long as it is collegial in nature Your closing comment is exactly correct by the way
  8. I assume you are trying to summarize in order to comment on Fuji's metering technicalities, but I am afraid you completely mist-stated how the zone system works. You do not just meter the scene for 18%, you meter your specific area of interest (hence the need for a spot meter) understanding the meter will interpret it as being 18% reflective, you the adjust your exposure to render your subject as you have envisioned it. The remainder of the scene would also be metered to ensure it falls within the dynamic range of your chosen media, chemicals, and processes as to provide the image that is sought without unplanned blow or black out. The zone system is a complex and precise process that can be just as relevant in digital photography is it is with silver based. Over simplifying it serves no one or purpose.
  9. The broken record returns lol Fuji, PLEASE fix the view mode silliness on the E2! Focus updates are also welcome What an awesome little camera and with a few tweaks will make a brilliant back up for my X-Pro2 ;-) Thanks Fuji.
  10. OK, this will either spark condescending debate or ... I loved the body and lenses of the GX680 Line, I used one with a Phase 1 back and the results were nothing less than breathtaking, the tonal seperation, colours, DR... the list goes on. I think that Fuji could get great mileage from just modernizing the 680 Body so it comms with the NEW back, but make it compatible with current lenses. That way they have time before they need release new versions of the lenses with newer glass and/or designs. There is a huge selection of very affordable, very highend Fuji GX glass out there and this approach would give them an instant full range MF market. Or not... :-)
  11. I have a Lowerpro 302 AW Slingshot Backpack for hiking with my Fuji kit, a huge Lowepro for my 4x5 kit (biggest backpack they make). I have a Domke F2 (super awesomest general purpose bag ever) it's the fatiqued canvas rugged wear model so it looks good too but sadly, it looks like a camera bag so it is relegated to hauling and car-bag, I never walk with it. I have a Think Tank 5 & 7, I want and try to like them, but they are too boxy for my tastes and swell to the front if you put anything in them. The space inside for camera and lenses shrinks if you use the acc pockets and the internal side pockets are a complete PITA even when empty. Am looking at the Hadley Pro, but would like to see one in person before shelling out that kind of coin. I don't mind the expense if it's a good match for my needs, but even shipping costs are not cheap so I want to prevent sending it back. My wife says that camera bags are like purses, you can never have too many, they are all expensive, and the perfect one is still being designed... ONA bags are far sexier than I can justify, I have held one and it is extremely well made and flat out gorgeous! I just don't want the best looking garment on me to be a bag lol
  12. I'm not clear why everyone seems to think it would be to Fuji's detriment to issue one last FW for teh X-E2... There are such significant differences between it and other models the I don't really think there's any threat to sales of new or diffeerent models (T10 vs X100). The truth is it is very nearly flawless as is, the view mode thing is a quandry, and for the life of my I don't understand a company that goes to great lengths to make a high dynamic range camera and then only offers 1 stop bracketing... seriousy? But a couple of small tweaks and add one or two new features and you keep the old and new customers happy I have an X-E2 and an X-T1 and love them both, but for different shoots as they have different strengths, as does teh X-T10. If Fuji has walked away from the X-En that would be sad and uneccesary frankly. I won't bail on them but I would lower my expectations, which is a shame as they are responsible for setting it so high in the first place and more than capable of maintaining it.
  13. Nailed it! Neither the artist nor the brush matters more then the work itself, and it's a piss-poor musician that blames their instrument (Fenders included lol).
