one important thing , you didn't mention, to consider is the size and weight. The f2.8 zoom lenses are huge compared to the primes. The 35mm f2 WR is going to be even smaller then the classic 35mm f1.4.
If its only about light gathering f2 is still a full stop faster then f2.8. If it's about dof the 35mm f1.4 stopped down to f2 will still give you nice bokeh. Don't underestimate an f2 lens. It's plenty fast and still has nice thin dof. Remember that the x100 series is "only" f2.

    Personally I don't think the 16-55mm f2.8 isn't worth it because:
    - no ois
    - no internal zoom
    - large and heavy
    - get the cheaper and smaller 18-55 with ois
    http://admiringlight.com/blog/fuji-16-55mm-f2-8-vs-18-55mm-f2-8-4/
And if you want fast and thin dof get the 56mm f1.2 instead.

For the price of a new lens you could easily get a used x100 s/t in my opinion. The best 35mm experience you can get! I have a xt1 and x100s combo. Makes a very good backup camera and no fiddling with lens changes. The x100 s/t doesn't really take more space in your bag then an extra lens. You do get less speed and dof 2 vs 1.4 though, but that shouldn't be a big issue.

    I have ax100s and x-t1. Great combo!
If I want to pack light I'll just take my x100s. If I have my bag with me I take both! I use the x100s for wide shots and/or x-t1 for portraits (35 or 18-55). You can't go wrong with this combo! I know for sure you won't regret the purchase coming from the original x100 (I owned it too)

XF 10-24 is definitely the best choice for exteriors and especially for interiors.

This definitely will be a must have lens for every xshooter! A weather resistant 50mm equivalent is what I was waiting for. I also like the new design and I hope it's the first of many new "smaller" lenses. I only wish it had the push/pull focusring with distance markings. Seeing the foto isn't the final design I'm still hoping....

I kind of love the effects of the heavy motors in the 35mm, I can feel it working out the focus and I can feel when it's done even without looking at the screen (though I of course must look at the screen because all too often it has stopped on a failed focus state).

That said it is a bit slow. Hopefully the new firmware will fix it.

For me the true value of the 35mm is when I want only one lens total. It works in low light, offers nice shallow DoF for head shots and the FL lets me have capture most subjects in most situations in a pleasant way. 23mm would be better for tight spaces but I like the 35mm because I don't have to get RIGHT in people's faces for candids etc.

Ultimately I'd rather have the 56mm and 23mm (or 16mm) together, but I like being able to have a single lens and not have to change it. I'm torn now because I feel like I need to buy both the 56 and the 23 before I'll ever choose one of them over the 35mm. Strongly considering getting the 16mm and working with that and the 35mm as an "everything" combo (with my 50-230mm for nature work).

You could wait for the 35mm f2 WR. And then make the choice. It's gonna be smaller, faster focusing and weather resistant. You already own the 56 for shallow df anyways... So I recommend waiting for the f2 version. That said...as long as I shoot Fuji il never sell my 35mm f1.4 its a absolute gem!

My opinion is that they should give one last fw update to bring the x100s to the level it "can" be since it still has the same processor and sensor as the x100t before they abondon the xtrans II. That is the essence of kaizen in my eyes.

The next "x200" will feature all new technology. Which FW will not be compatible with the x100t or x100s.

Remember that a lot jumped on the x100s at the time when Fuji gave the x100 one last fw update, because they were impressed by Fuji's philosophy.

Also depends on what sort of effect you're looking for. If you want that stylised, ultra-wide angle look, go for the 12mm. Whereas if you want a more naturalistic, journalistic, wide-angle where the lens effect is less intrusive, go for the 16mm

I'm not sure if you're gonna be satisfied using these lenses. It seems to me you'll probably not gonna use them very often. You're going to be much more satisfied with the quality of the xf lenses. If you want a 35mm experience in small format, then your best option will be the xf27mm pancake. It's small and closest to 35mm (40mm) you can get in a small form factor. No aperture ring though. I passed on the slrmagic because of its size and realized I didn't need another 35mm equivalent lens, because I already got a x100. Maybe just be patient. Fujifilm is introducing a "smaller" 35mm the end of this year. Maybe they'll do the same with the 23mm...

I don't know whether those old Helios lenses are comparable with the X100 range. I'm no expert, but a quick look on Wikipedia tells me that they're both short telephotos, whereas the X100 is a 35mm-equivalent. With a far smaller, more portable lens, if small and portable is what you're looking for. I have an XT1 and an X100S, which is my travel, 'stealth' or inconspicuous camera, for when I want to travel light and when I don't want to look like 'The Photographer'. It's an amazing and pocketable little camera - which is why pros like Annie Liebowitz use them as their 'fun' cameras. I can understand why you might want to use old 35mm film camera lenses from a retro-hobbyist point of view, in the same way that people like to collect and drive pre-war cars. But from a photographic point of view, Fuji's latest kit outperforms them in pretty much every way. Modern lens coatings, materials and autofocus technology in a retro-styled package. Perfect!

You have a rather defensible opinion, it makes sense.

I agree with pretty much everything you say, and also feel that Fuji "probably is a bit random in how they perform kaizen".

Looks like they are putting a bit of this here, a bit of that here, ah well we forgot this one let's put this but not that, suddenly nothing more, it's not clear for the customers at all (don't think it's really clear for them either), and probably generates some frustration I can understand that. Albeit for me if they don't break anything and keep adding stuff until no more is given I'm perfectly fine, but I can understand it.

The line of conduct you propose is maybe a bit simple (all identical hardware same FW) but would clear things up.

I totally agree with you that some people should show humility! I have a x-t1 and have all the latest bells and whistles. But it also reminds me that my x100s isn't reaching its full potential.
Fuji probably is a bit random in how they perform kaizen, no sense of direction. It feels like they made a mistake with the x100s and quickly replaced it with the x100t. In my opinion the managers should have decided early on, that all camera's of the same generation (EXRI, XTransI and EXRII,XTransII) should have the same FW features. With the obvious exception of hardware limitations (evf resolution, fixed lens vs ilc, wifi, button layout etc) this makes sense to me as a business model.

Apple also does it with its software. They could choose to not upgrade the software of older models of iPhone/macs. But instead it made more sense to continually improve their products and therefore apple has been growing even more. The software in every product is essentially the same, the hardware makes the difference. People should be able to choose between camera's not because of software features but hardware.

This forum and topic is just a way for some of us to vent frustration and/or give our opinion.
