  1. I originally wasn't going to update from 3.0 to 3.1 but decided to anyway. Today I tried some longer exposure on a mini tripod, using self-timer. First thing I noticed was that the LCD screen zoomed in randomly without me touching any buttons or dials. I was merely moving tripod a small fraction to centre image. Odd. Then after maybe 6-8 shots I noticed that the self-timer had disengaged. Again, odd. Sure enough when I checked the menu, the timer was off. As you know, it's generally two clicks and a dial turn away to adjust that, unless you turn off the camera and in this case, the camera was not turned off (I was in middle of shooting). My long exposure was through the "T" setting, which I have on my rear command dial. It was around 2 seconds (nothing epic). I wasn't using manual focus, so thus the zoom behaviour is very unusual. Self timer was on 2 seconds (just to avoid shake). I have now reset the camera. Last 3 updates I've had to reset for varied reasons. Anyone else experiencing any unusual behaviour with 3.1? I'll update if problem persists. Assume all OK after reset if I don't comment further.
  2. Hi. I haven't had much time to put everything to the test but here are my initial thoughts. The best feature for me is the new narrow focus point, which makes the focus accuracy really high and the focus is really fast, even in low light. I feel the focusing speed has improved - not that there was an issue but improvements are always welcome (using the 35mm F2 for all tests). The thing that puzzles me (and consider it a con) is that when I shoot in film bracket mode (3 film JPGS per shot), with the new RAW enabled, I get 3 identical RAW copies per each shot. This chews up SD memory and I must say that for the first time ever, I ran out of SD space on my primary card while doing street photography. The import lightroom process also means that my computer is loading files (unless you sit and deselect) that I don't need. So I now have to deselect duplicate RAWs as part of my workflow - seems small thing but it's actually not fun when you have a total of 6 pictures that are of the same shot (3 JPGs and 3 RAWs). Imagine loading 200 images and you get the idea. I stopped shooting film brackets today since it's faster to convert to JPG in camera if if the JPG setting I had wasn't the best (for single photo JPG + RAW mode). Further to this, the camera does not provide a post shot image preview in the film bracket + raw mode. This again is not good for me as when doing street, I like to delete things on the fly (if the image misses the object, as it does happen when people move or someone enters your frame). Thus, this is also related to my SD card getting loaded up. I will add here that i am not using the type II SD card but have the fastest one in the standard SD. Camera takes a while to write each shot to card. Maybe because it is writing 3 RAW files instead of 1? This may be stopping the picture preview. I don't know and would be grateful if anyone is using a faster SD has this issue. For me, I really just want a single RAW with the film bracket setting. I haven't been able to find the copyright function and I did specifically go looking for it - the manual may explain it but I thought it would be obvious and in user settings like date/time. The online manual is not great IMO as the search engine feature is not accurate enough for my liking. Also, Lightroom had a hernia when I loaded the entire SD card (200 or so pics) and it decided it wasn't going to import JPGS. So I got the 3 RAW files per photo but not the film simulation JPG's. I managed to get them in since without drama but something may need tweaking in the Lightroom software (I checked but no updates). I think it's a thumbs up for 3.0 in general because the focusing is pretty insane and that to me is paramount for any photo. The bracketing + RAW is not what I had expected (if this is how it's designed then it's not practical and I can do without it). Perhaps my camera needs a reset but no one seems to be commenting about that feature as yet so i will simply not use it for now. I'll update anything further as it becomes apparent. Really hope Fuji can put ISO on the front command dial like the XT2. A lot of focus from Fuji on XT2 since its release but I think Xpro2 needs just as much love.
  3. Hi Everyone I'm Marcel, from Melbourne, Australia. My current Fuji is the x100 and I recently made a decision to replace my 5D3 with Fuji. So for now, I am preparing to sell my existing Canon gear while I research and test the Xpro2 and wait for the XT2. The x100 is a great camera but I am going to sell because my style of shooting requires faster focus and operation (I mostly shoot street/urban). It's always the case that when new tech comes along we become more aware of the gaps in the older tech. I recently tested the Xpro2 in a local store and I must say that I was really impressed with the SOOC JPGs. The depth, colour and look of the pictures is the best I have seen SOOC bar none. Once I sell my 5D3 (& accessories/lenses) I am considering the option to buy an Xpro2 and an XT2 as a second body, given I will benefit from lenses that both can use. Anyone already on Xpro2 and XT1? is this overkill or you find the two bodies give you different characteristics that you can apply to your creative process? I currently edit RAW in LR but if JPGs are this good I will be happy to use them where possible. Alternatively I was looking at x70 to replace my x100, then decide on either Xpro2 or XT2. Obviously, I am intending to wait for the release of XT2 before making a purchase. Dilemma is that I tested two x70's already (in store) and haven't had the greatest experiences with the results. First set of pics were suffering from blur - I couldn't understand why auto selected speeds sub 1/18 sec. I think the menu must have been played with but "auto" switch should consider that the user is going to be less savvy - therefore keep speed up to reduce/eliminate shake. I can't see any logical reason to have speeds of 1/13th sec, while keeping iso at 800 and f8. Second attempt (different store) I avoided auto and pulled a dozen test shots, majority in focus. Without any film simulation, I am not seeing the IQ that I would expect from this sensor. Response is better but IQ not better than my x100 (and that's an old camera now). I came across this forum in my hunt to see x70 reviews and shots. From what I see, the camera is capable of nice images but IQ is a little flat. Maybe because I have now seen the Xpro2 capability everything is flat. I look forward to reading your experiences, so thank you for making this forum/community so interesting. It's a valuable process in getting the most out of the great Fuji cameras. regards Marcel http://fotomarz.tumblr.com https://twitter.com/fotomarz Instagrams: foto_marz & foto_marz_street
