Grip side, that grip looks intimidating! Maybe that's why Asahi can't give us a pre-cut.

    Applying process.

    And Done!

An additional grip to hide away the lashes. In real life it's less noticeable than on the picture.

Now the door. Added two "L-shape" frame to straighten out the door.

But that is not enough so I gave It a "heat treatment". Obviously, don't try this is you don't know what you are doing!!

There you have it, all straight and tight!!

Needless to say, I'm a happy guy with my Xt1, it feels solid and even more robust then with the rubber from fuji.

    Thanks for watching.

Hi folks, found my solution for the detached rubber and "banana" door on the xt1.
I've got this well used Xt1 with all the scratches on it, making it Oh so sexy and no Milandro, it's is Not put there by me . Al comes natural.
Anyway, paid €250 for it. 100% in working order except the rubber and door. The door is in what I called "banana shape", the rear rubber "thump rest" is off, front grip almost, left side corner starts to. It looks nasty so I stripped it all off and cleaned the glue residue.
Wanted to send to Fuji Germany for a new door and rubber as they agree to do it for free (xt1 is only 2.5 years old), but that means my Xt1 will be gone for at least a month. No way .
So, I ordered Asahi's synthetic leather sheet and went my way. Making templates and start cutting.

This is how it first came in.

    Left over, can't re-use it.

Here I go,first the rear as it is easier.

This result gave me confidence to move to the front section

    Left side.

Writing this with a smile I thank everyone of you for their non sugar coated comments on my latest "crazy act".
Pierre comments is no surprise and understandable , my dad actually act the same way, slapping on my 40 years old head when he saw what I did.
But let me explain why I did it beside the fact that I like to do it. I'm a modeler, scale car modeler that is. Replicate the old worn out look of old cars on to 1/10 scale. When I was young I was fascinated with old cameras especially those from war photographers. So yes you're right that what I did is not real and fake but I know for sure being just a enthusiasts, my gear won't look like that even when I'm dead. So I replicated to my taste. I loved I even more now and it's a keeper.
Digital cameras comes and goes, I'm not destroying it just cosmetic enhancements, every scratch I have made is well thought and calculated.
Writing this is by no means to win Pierre or anybody over to like what I did. You don't like? Me happy Meaning there won't be any other like mine.

Here's a picture of my other hobby beside taking pictures.
Thanks for watching and feel free free to comment.

I have a soft spot for "well used" camera gears so after my X70 got it first "scratch"... Well now you know what happens next.

    Hi to all X70 owners.

I would like like to start this thread to show my X70 with some accessories to add usage comfort or to protect it lens/touchscreen.
Fujifilm have some excellent accessories for the X70 like: Aluminium lens hood, leather strap/halfcase, uv filter, EOV finder, grip belt ect. BUT at a price of course.

What I want to show some cheap alternative to pimp your X70 wich works great for me.

First, the touchscreen protection film. I use a mate anti glare/fingerprint. This might not work you some but personally I hate fingerprint so with this film I don't have to clean my screen all the time. Touch function still work as it should, although anti glare it's hard to see in direct sunlight.

Lens hood. This lens hood from eBay is for the X100 series but the filter thread on the X70 is also 49mm, that means you can screw this on to the X70. This is version 2.0, looks much like the JJC one but has a attractive waffle pattern on the hood. For only $10 it look even beter than the one on the X100 IMO. It extended the lens quite a lot so I only screw this on when it dangling down my neck on a Keychain. For in my coat pocket, it's off and only has a thin lens cap.
It comes with an adapter, on to it I screw a Ultra slim Nisi uv filter.

    Nisi uv filter, adapter, hood.

    Filter on adapter.

    Totaal package.

    With hood.

    Without hood.

Last but no less important, the thumpsup/rest.
Now there are no X70 thumpsup yet but here I have a cheap one for the X100, modify a bit by curving it inward, not to much, so it almost touches the exposure dail, filed away underneath so the touchscreen doesn't hit it when fold out. Works perfectly, add extra grip.

Wel that's it. Hopes it helps.

This is what a pro's camera looks like.

I like the look of what ya'll have done, but Milandro nailed it.  They don't look like a professional's does.  But it's your camera, and they do look kinda cool..

X70 doesn't have zoom option but you can get really really close to your subject. That's it.

Yeah, that's a Xpro1 from Jonas. He sandpaper it to bare metal. Can't clearly see how the surface looks like but it quite fine lined. I wouldn't do that to my camera because you need to do a lot of maintenance to keep it "white".

apparently one of our members @Yukosteel, has made one steampunk camera already.

This concept could be ever so simply applied to the X-70!

This thread has become so interesting, ironic, and kind of distressing—pun intended.

Distressed jeans. Distressed furniture. It's a design concept. It's not for everyone, and many of us, myself included, protect our camera to preserve its luster. I respect those whose view are divergent from my own, particularly if they seem peculiar or unexpected.

I like what the OPer did to his camera. I admire his chutzpah. I draw no conclusions about him, the person, from this act. I can't judge him by the appearance of one of his possessions, I can't judge a book by its cover, and I can't make an assumption of the whole individual from this narrow slice of what I know about him. It seems reasonable to not like what he did to his camera, and to act on that revulsion by choosing not to do it to your own camera, but to draw conclusions about him, to judge him, and to and sling accusations about his purpose, his outlook, his world view. . . .   That, to me, is the false veneer.

    I love customization.

It certainly says things about oneself and it is not, normally, pretending anything just showing off, which I really don’t think there is anything wrong with.

Again, although I am not personally into steampunk myself I could see how a steampunk treatment would work on a Fuji camera.

Awaiting someone who will do something like this on a working Fuji camera! I think that building this around a Petzval on a fuji camera would be really a great start.

    (not my camera)
