This probably has a lot more todo with future Video features than photography, maybe the new Super X mount camera that was rumoured.

In photography IBIS has limited usefulness (same as OIS on <100mm lens), being able to hand hold a shot at 1/4 second using a 35mm lens is of little use unless your subject is stationary
You may not have camera shake but you replace that with motion blur.

I honestly can't think of a usage for IBIS for photography, that the 16-50, 18-55, or 18-135 lens can not do with their OIS
Architecture or landscape shots at night without a tripod, since you are using F8/11/16/22 to get the required DOF all those can be done with lens with OIS that are available now.

Don't get me wrong for handheld video it will be great, but for photography I can not see the point other than a tick box item

if you shoot concerts or acts on stage at less than 1/125s I'd imagine the motion blur is present on almost every photo, if that is the look you're going for that's your artist interpretation.
When i shoot events I'd much rather have a usable high ISO, than be able to slow the shutter speed, as I generally do not want motion blur on the acts i'm photographing. (the exception being if I want to show movement)

All IBIS or OIS does is allow you to use a slower shutter speed, on long lenses > 100mm it is an advantage being able to use a shutter speed of 1/60 seconds without camera shake.

But shooting a 50mm/35mm lens (or wider) it makes no difference, as less than 1/60s motion blur will appear on anything that moves, and shooting a 35mm lens at 1/60s or faster there is no camera shake.

I also do plenty of candid street photography, again never missed a shot because of no ibis, as I'd never be using a shutter speed so slow camera shake became an issue before motion blur did

I tried it with the OVF and it seems to be fine - and I really tried to make it fail. That said I asked around and I have a couple of local friends who shoot with the X100F and they are saying the firmware update DID NOT fix the problem of the shifting focus point in manual focus with the EVF/OVF. We are going to compare all of our X100F settings over coffee - there might be something else factoring in.

    Cheers, Terry

Thanks for this. I think you're right that this problem is far from universal, which makes you wonder what the parameters are. (Components from a particular batch? Assembly in a particular plant?)

But I understand from Fuji Tech Support that the company is aware of the issue, and the Japanese engineers are working on a firmware fix. Let's hope Fuji gets the firmware update 1.02 out soon!

    Just got this email:

    =====================

    From: Fujifilm <xxxxxxxxx xxxxxxx@fujifilm.xxxxxx.com>
    Date: 19 June 2017 at 09:48:47 WEST
    To: Mr Bonn <adam.bonn@xxxxx>
    Subject: Your query regarding Fujifilm

    Ask Fujifilm

    Dear Mr Bonn,

Thank you for contacting Fujifilm UK.

Fujifilm in Japan are working on a firmware upgrade to fix this phenomenon. It will be announced as soon as it is available.

    We apologise for this inconvenience.

    Kind regards

    The Fujifilm X World Team

    =======================

I can't imagine it's worth asking WHEN as Fuji UK are unlikely to know and let's be honest the recent historical FW releases have been announced as "coming late May" so I doubt we'll get a cast iron date

Still on the plus side, it sounds like Fuji are acknowledging there's an issue and are working to rectify it

So PERSONALLY I'm not that unhappy, had this email said something like 'we can't replicate the problem, have you tried a system reset, beyond that we don't have any suggestions' then I'd have been pretty far from happy

So now we wait for the next FW.

Its an additional EVF/LCD mode, you can change back to the way you are used to.

Interestingly as you get to know this new mode its actually quite cool.

Basically teh way it works is turn camera on, LCD will be on and show you the live view. Bring camera to eye, remove camera from eye LCD still in live-view. All is good and as before.

Put camera back to eye EVF switches on, take a shot, remove from eye, low and behold automatic picture review with option to click OK. However and this is where it get interesting, put camera back to ey and EVF turn on automatically and you can carry on taking pictures until you again remove the camera from you eye and it will automatically show you the last picture on the LCD again in preview mode. Its basically an auto-chimping mode. Basically with this mode you shoot with EVF until you think you have a keeper and when you remove camera from your eye it automatically presses the play button for you, if your keeper turns out not to be sharp, put camera back to eye and carry on shooting, rinse repeat. I like using this mode with preview turned off (0 Secs) as then I get uninterrupted shooting through EVF, but if I want to check I just pull camera away from my face.

Its great though because the whole time the camera is at your eye you can shoot seamlessly it will not stop you taking a shot, which is what annoyed me at first because I kept hitting okay before putting it back to my eye because that is what the screen told me to do, but its unnecessary, you only need to hit okay if you want to go back to live view on the LCD.

Have you specifically tried the EVF and LCD *colour* settings? That is, Setup menu, then into Screen setup, then make sure that EVF Color and LCD Color are both set to the same value (I'd recommend setting both to 0 unless you find you've got good reason to do otherwise). Sorry if you've already done all this, but it's the only thing I can think of.

Just one other thought: Auto white balance can do strange things to colours under certain lighting conditions. It would be worth checking to see if you get the same effect using, say, Daylight WB. (For example, I'm now looking at a green cushion using Auto WB under bright artificial light (LED bulbs): the cushion looks green in the LCD but blue in  the EVF. If I use another WB setting, the effect goes away.) Anyhow, I hope your problem is something simple like this!

I sent mine back to Kenro, the UK importers of Nissin on day 1. They did the upgrade on day 2 and shipped it back via DPD on day 2 so that it arrived as a timed delivery on day 3. Fantastic service and now I just have to test it out.

On the question of how dust gets into a weather-sealed lens, this article is well-worth reading - and it makes you glad it's only dust inside the lens! https://petapixel.com/2015/06/10/we-found-a-fly-inside-a-weather-sealed-lens/

dfaye got a reaction from Robrac in AF Mode and Photometry
Hi Robrac, Photometry is the metering mode - that is, multi, centre-weighted, spot, or average. AF Mode is the way the autofocus works - that is, single point, zone, or wide tracking. (And yes, I still get confused by the term photometry, even though I've been with Fuji since the original X100!).

dfaye got a reaction from idbugs in EF-X500 Remote Trigger
Hi Lee, Yes, just to confirm what you say in your second post: the only way (at present) that you can have TTL function in a remote X500 is to put a second X500 in the hotshoe as a commander unit: a rather expensive option! However I find that the little EF-X8 that comes with the XT-1/X-T2 works well as a simple commander. The remote X500 is switched to the Remote setting; if the EF-X8 master in the camera hotshoe is set to Commander or Manual, then the remote X500 must be in N mode. If the EF-X8 in the hotshoe is being used in TTL mode, the remote X500 must be in P mode.
But I find it altogether simpler to use a set of cheap Yongnuo radio triggers, in which case the remote X500 is switched to the simple On setting (NOT Remote - that's for the optical (IR) triggering) and is of course in Manual mode.
I do like the X500, though: apart from its lack of a radio triggering system, I think it's a well-specified flash and easy to use.
