It’s jungle out there in Utrecht

if you bump into anything that is

My point is that the bokeh artifacts could be digitally induced. There is no way to even know if this is the case or not. Enjoy your lens.
-
well, you may have omitted the LR corrections but not the corrections that Fuji makes the lens make even on the RAW. In other words there is no way to know the exact rendering of any Fuji ( Zeiss for Fuji too) lens because those corrections happen on the raw file not only the jpeg.
-
one point is that with these lenses there is really no way to know how the lens performs “ per se” as we are observing lenses which feature and automatic digital correction. In other words anything observed in the pats that we don’t like might be the result of an artefact created either optically or digitally.

whatever it is , Zeiss or not, is unpleasant to me

I still regard the bokeh as “ muddy”.

one like this.... you can find them in all sizes and prices.

I also find (in all the pictures that I have see to date, that I don’t like the “ out of focus” part rendering, as shown here in the coffee bean picture, of course it is a matter of personal preference but I truly dislike it.

I think they are different sizes , fuji makes very many different sizes and few lenses have interchangeable hoods. Also their hoods tend to be often not the most practical choice and there are many threads everywhere on alternative for this that or the other lens. I have the 50-230 and immediately replaced the huge lens hood with a much smaller one. I chose a metal screw one one but you could chose a rubber collapsable hood which in many cases allows you to “ zoom” in two stages ( I wouldn’t find this feature useful for me but if one really wants it is possible to get).

Amateur upgrading from X-E1, T1 users please
milandro replied to KirstyL's topic in Fuji X-T1 / Fuji X-T10
I have owned or used: X-E1, X-M1, XE-2 Currently own and use a X-T1 for over 3 years and counting. I haven’t seen any reason to upgrade until now and probably will only buy a new camera if and when my X-T1 will cease to work. If you buy a X-T 1 don’t buy a new one and buy one lightly used, there must be plenty out there. You can print huge prints with 16Mp though most people never print anything anyway. Your 5 year old computer will not need any new software to process (I still use Aperture and NIK and LIghtroom 5 and Silkypix 2.0 ) the images and you won’t clog its memory banks with unnecessarily big files that only offer a marginal gain over the 16Mb files. I don’t film, if I do, HD is more than enough for me, I don’t have any use for 4K and I don’t even own software (or a computer) that could deal with it properly, so, I don’t miss it. I have taken decent pictures with it but have seen many very much worst pictures shot with X-T2 and X-Pro 2. I know this is a spiny point of view shared by very few people who look for chops in boxes. -
so that they can charge you in excess of €2500?

I have tried shooting pictures of my slides and negatives in many ways ( 60mm macro lens, adapted 100mm macro lens, slide repro-tube, enlarging lens on a macro bellows) The results were always relatively disappointing. Mileage might vary but don’t set your expectations too high. By the way the loss of focus on the sides might be cause by the curvature of the slide or negative. Good luck!

For a lot of people the most noticeable advantage will be to say : “ My camera has two systems that can stabilize the movements of my hands while taking pictures”. Panning is very useful but of course you need a steady hand because if you pan but shake wile doing so then the camera movement will be visible.

the more I see the burst of activity when a new product is announced on the forum the more I understand that a lot of people like buying new cameras. Then when I see what they do with the cameras (or lens) I wonder what was it that they couldn’t do before that they could do now, since many of those pictures don’t show any of the improved functions that they so dearly paid for. As it has happened before this call to reflect upon the urge to want the newest product and buying it as opposed to needing the new functions and using them is met with a salvo of “ I can afford the best therefore I do!”. This is not only true of cameras, the clothing industry knows this all too well. Some of us have clothes in their cabinets that have never been worn and some of it will be thrown out without even ever wear it. Consumerism is, of course, the motor of the consumer society but the thing that represent it the most is” owning” the things,. not so much using them. In other words if we were asked to give away the money for something that we never ever get we wouldn’t do that and yet that is precisely what we do when we buy something we don’t really need (and use). Another thing is also the vicious cycle triggered by buying new stuff (that many don’t need). You buy yourself a new camera but then discover that the software that you have on your old computer doesn’t work with the new camera, then you buy a new computer and then you discover that all the software that you used for other things (unrelated to photography) no longer works with your new computer. Let alone the fact that you get given a system which is not yet tested and , as Apple has painfully displayed lately, has a door open for the hackers , while the previous system is still shut well against invasion. By the way now there are 8K televisions. Are you going to demand 8K from Fuji when they just introduced a 4K that is not working very well? Before you do that remember that the software and computer for the 8K probably will require an upgrade too. The funny thing is that some will only ever use this to shoot pictures of their grandkids running around the garden. Something is rotten out there, and not only in the state of Denmark .

Mike, this the PDF, it might have escaped your attention http://fujifilm-dsc.com/en/manual/x-t2_v30/x-t2_v30_nfg_omw_en_s_f.pdf If you think you cannot download it open the page above you go the the menu “ File....” it should be the third one from the left ( I have my mac on another language but It doesn’t matter)” scroll until you find Export as PDF. This very useful function allows you to download almost any internet page as a PDF file
