  1. mdm: +1 except htn and stn Filip, I think CC suits the overcast mood on that day and looks most realistic. But I often prefer CC in various conditions because of the colour tones and it seems to me to have nicer details. But we all have different monitors and settings on them so you know, it depends on that also.
  2. Filip, Is that our friend mdm sitting under his yellow umbrella there ? :-) G.
  3. Poor Jorge ! Lucky me, my three sons are still students so if they want something expensive, I make them earn half of the price and I make a gift of the other half. That is the way my father did it with me and it worked, I learned how to earn my own money and how not to spend it easily :-) From what you said it seems your daughter will soon be a working girl in a profession that will be a service to her community, but not a well paid one. In that case she deserves your support if you can afford it. Sell the Nikon gear and buy another 18-55 ! Kind Regards George
  4. Haha... No, I am just providing internet connectivity to three small buildings with offices. 2Gbit is not all that much if you divide it between two or three dozens of clients. I have a rack with a few Mikrotik routers hooked to a Cisco switch that is connected to that above mentioned optical cable. I have that line because my company had been a contributing member of the national academical network association for a long time and some years ago a when a nearby college dorm was cabled to the national traffic exchange (which is governed by the academical network and resides in the site which was previously the biggest academical computer centre) we piggybacked on that. Cheers, my friend.
  5. I am in computers since 1978, from the times when hard disks were as big as a washing machine and we had to adjust the heads with allen keys each week (true). I have built and/or sold thousands, have used Apples and PC's. I have a house full of computers from the size of a post stamp to a server the size of an AS/400. I have a 2Gbit optical wire straight to the national internet traffic exchange. I can choose whatever computer for myself. I use a PC that I built with an M.2 NVMe SSD, a GTX 1060 on a i5 with a 4K monitor. I can send you a detailed parts list if you wish. And the price difference between Apple and PC is not the reason. Of course, half of the world will not agree with me, but if you are collecting opinions, this is mine. Depends what type of a user you are and what you want to do with it. Cheers, good luck.
  6. You are welcome. Good luck and let us know how did you fare. And perhaps you would like to look at FlashQ or some other flash remote, they give you more options than on-camera flash.
  7. Phillipe, I waited a little to see if someone with the X-T20 responds but no one has. I can not answer your question but I use the MK-320's with my X-T10 and I think they are brilliant. I could go and try one of them on a X-T20 for you in our local store if you can not resolve this otherwise. Here where I live on-line stores would be obliged to let you send an item back unless you purchase it as a company (not as a private customer). Maybe you can do that too. G.
  8. But OTOH I agree with the OP somewhat, e.g. I can afford to buy an X-T2 or T20 or whatever but I am not in a hurry because I reckon I don't deserve it as I am not enough of a photographer to warrant that. First the man and then the machine.
  9. I remember repairing the keypunch machines, also adjusting the heads on hard disks with an Allen key and an oscilloscope. The hard disks were the size of a washing machine. I remember slugging those bags full of cards to the computer centre in the middle of the night because that was when I could grab a free time slot. Could be used to write and run your Fortran program but nowadays I would prefer something nicer to run a program, even if the output would be a series of digits printed out of a line printer and therefore effectively the same. The thirst for new and more interesting stuff is legitimate I suppose, isn't it.
  10. RichardS +1
  11. Rosie, The bw one is beautiful, like film. Let us see some more.
  12. Enzio, Thanks for sharing. You are the King of Butterflies.
  13. Larry, neither have I to be honest but when I found some of my shots to be soft and they were made with me having forgot to switch OIS off, that is what I attributed it to as I always use the self-timer on tripod. Good idea to test it, I will do it sometime. Of course, we don't know what lens the OP is using, if he has OIS on them or not. Another thing comes to my mind, if he is shooting lights like street lamps or even stars, I think it could be a good idea to take off a filter if there is one. Cheers and all the best for this new year.
  14. Switch off OIS when on tripod ?
  15. I have an X-T10 myself. Sorry to hear that. I hope they'll fix it for you quickly. Let us know.
  16. Mike, Lou probably meant the eye (cheek) proximity sensor near the viewfinder, not the image sensor. Nice hat, Lou. What camera ? Try a reset, sorry there is nothing else I can think of. Good luck with this, Lou. All the best for the coming year to both of you.
  17. Thanks for sharing. PF2017
  18. Sebastien, In the put-them-on-the-dining-table-right-under-peoples-noses-when-travelling scenario I just put on the plastic box thing that is delivered with the flashes, I point them upwards, stand some glasses around them or throw a paper napkin over them. Most of the time people don't pay any attention to these small things. At home I sometimes use a softbox, any cheap old type that is attached to the flash by velcro. That is about as far as I am willing to go, this is not for professional photography, just you know, family pictures, kids etc. brgds George
  19. Wow.
  20. Sebas(tian?) I use the two Meike 320s that I have mostly off camera, so I don't miss the180 degrees head turn. For example I leave them standing on the table pointing upwards with the diffusers on, between the glasses, or with a napkin thrown over them, and me walking around the table taking pictures of family and friends. Great on a holiday having an evening meal, everybody relaxed and chatting. I have them at a low power setting, people don't seem to be bothered, after a while they forget about me and I have nice sharp pictures, albeit with the background filtered away, which often is no bad thing. Most of the time I don't even take the FlashQ tx off the camera. I have a third rx that I use with my old Canon 420EX alongside the two Ms when at home. I think the Ms are great little things. Good price but they have a premium feel about them. They work well with rechargeable batteries, which I see as a big plus (esp. environmentally). Cheers George
  21. Wi and Quincy, This was the briefest and most hilarious scientific discussion between two experts that I have seen so far. Do you have any more of that stuff ? And what happened to that brownie ? I want to see that (I have no idea what that is, I must google it). btw beautiful subjects for photography on your Bali Charm site. Cheers guys
  22. Hermelin, Enjoy while you can, when our kids got bigger they didn't want to be photographed as often as I wanted to photograph them. They put on spoiling faces. I sometimes bump up colour +1 on Classic Chrome and Pro Neg too, especially if it is overcast or in the shadow. Hendrik, Beautiful, esp. the one with the snow falling from the branches. Hang it on a wall ! btw what on Earth is "peenhäälestus" ??!? Escapes my wildest imagination
  23. Of course you don't. I don't have anything in the 35 equiv. focal length, except my 18-55. I keep reading so many comments that people like 35mm a lot, you said the same, I swear I am going to set my 18-55 to 23 for a month and never move the zoom (tape it !) and see what is it all about, where is the magic. I have the 35f2 and I am looking at the 23f2 but I read some not-so-favorable comments on it. Anyway, I am too busy building the house now so no time for photography. Good luck. Share some photos ! Cheers.
  24. May I ask, maybe you know, does the pixel-shift mechanism in Olympus rotate the sensor ? I thought it would be shifting the sensor. I am asking just out of curiosity, I know nothing about it. Another question that comes to my mind is if we are theoretically considering moving the camera to the order of the size of a pixel, if distortion plays a role at normal focal lengths. But you must have reason for mentioning that and you know the subject, as opposed to me, so I don't argue, I am just wondering. To come back (just for fun) to my idiotic idea, to rotate the camera would possibly be easier than to move it along two axis and it could be built to make very small increments in the angle of rotation. But I say this just for amusement or maybe for some special purpose that is totally remote from normal photography, don't take this seriously. On the other hand, your effort to use a set of random hand-held images to calculate an increase in resolution could be very practical, it is a stroke of genius if you ask me and I find it very interesting. Not because I think I need more pixels or because I think it would improve my photographic or artistic skills, but because as a technical idea and for people who do need more resolution for their work, I think it is a fascinating idea and effort on your part. Compliments & Cheers. Edit: For macro, rotate the subject ?
  25. Rahul, I would suggest Flickr, camera finder and take a look at photos taken with the X70 to see what that focal length looks like (distortion... ). You don't expect to shoot tight headshots with it and have them look as if they were taken with the 90, do you. The X70 is more suited for groups, environmental portraits - including some of the surroundings, as in travel photography, or street photography, I would say.
