I love using the X100t (and X100/X100s before it) for landscapes. I like the challenge of a single focal length and not having to stress about lenses, etc... Here are a few landscapes from Iceland:

It doesn’t work, no AF-improvement, it doesn’t focus between each shot in CL or CH, no faster AF in low light! This is some of the negative feedback we could read in the comments on FR and at the Fuji-X-Forum here.

So what… is Firmware 4 just crap? Well, sometimes (often?) it’s just a matter to find the right settings. Patrick has made up an extended list of tipps:

Enable Mechanical Shutter (MS) only. The camera won’t focus between each shot in CL or CH tracking, if ES only (electronic shutter) or MS+ES is enabled. Shooting fast-moving subjects with the ES doesn’t really make sense (rolling shutter effect).

Turn Off Face Detection! If you have Face Detection put to ON, the camera will focus only with CDAF. The faster Phase Detection AF (PDAF) works only if Face Detection is disabled.

High Performance Mode ON: many don’t even know that this features exists, like Calipedro here. It’s definitely worth to sacrifice a bit of battery life. Fuji should put this feature ON as standard.

Keep you subject in the center: Phase detection pixels are located in the center of the sensor. Keep your subject in the center and PDAF will give you a faster AF.

Use all Phase Detection Pixels with Zone AF 5×3: To take advantage of all the phase detection pixels, set you Zone AF box to 5×3 and place it in the center of the frame. Within this 5×3 box tracking will be very smooth… at least that’s my experience with my crazy dog.

Increase the size of the AF-box: If you use Single Point AF, increase the size of the AF-box as much as possible.

PRE-AF: The camera will continuously adjust focus, even if the shutter is not pressed (of half pressed). This can help to get the first shot in focus quicker. Downside: more battery drain.

LENS FIRMWARE: make sure that your Fujinon lens is updated to the latest firmware version.

Different Lens, Different results: According to the lens you use, the AF-improvement will be more or less (or not) visible. For example, I was very happy with the improvement of my 55-200, but I can’t really say if the 18-55 or 14 has become faster.

The learning curve: Practice and get used to the new features. See what works best in which situation

Let Rico study for you. Rumors has it, that Rico will update his X-T1 book and tell us how to make the best out of our new Fuji X-T1 FW 4. Once it’s out, all we have to do is to read his updated book.

So, do you have more tips? Then share them below!

    Good question - I don't know.

I had to delete this link - for this and several other reasons:
We don't know this software - can be a virus too If it's Fuji firmware, we don't know what status it has (final / beta / alpha) Depending on the status a buggy firmware can harm your hardware too Having said this: If you want to take this risk, feel free to go to the Fujistas

A French FujiRumors readers spotted the Firmware 4.0 file on Facebook... and for the sake of science, I decided to update My Own X-T1 with Firmware 4.0 and test if it works

It's really late at night here, and I will do proper testings tomorrow (sometimes even FujiRumors has to sleep). But it's pretty nice to see how well it tracks my dog .

I'll share my findings about the FW in the next days in this thread... stay tuned

Although the file is circulating on facebook, I decided to remove it, since it's not the final version.

    Great black & white shot!

Here is an example of the CA creating PORST Tele MC Auto D 135mm f/2.8 M42. It's a cheap lens but it creates many CAs. Just look around the fur of the cat. This shot isn't SOOC but I just did some colour and contrast edits. No CA corrections. I think it was shot wide open at f/2.8.

    Hey to everybody,

this topic is for all of you who don't have the money for the XF 50-140 and for all who love the 135mm (203mm) focal length.
It is inspired by this little test: http://forum.mflenses.com/twelve-2-8-135mm-lenses-compared-on-5dmkii-t39463.html and by the beautiful images of dv. http://ourphoto.org/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=6101 who also shared a similar topic: http://www.fuji-x-forum.com/topic/71-ebc-fujinon-t-135mm-25-m42/

I've owned some M42 135mm lenses. If you're ever researching for such a lens there are at least three you can't ignore.

1 - Tair 11A 135mm f/2.8 with 20!!! aperture blades, 150-250 €. I've never tried the Tair because I read that it isn't as good as it seems. Just the Bokeh shall be gorgeous!

    2 - Fujinon EBC 135mm f/2.5 with 6 aperture blades, 250-350 €

    3 - Pentacon 135mm f/2.8 with 15 aperture blades, 40-100 €

    I've also owned a Fujinon 135mm f/3.5 M42. Good and compact lens for about 30 €.
    And I've owned a PORST Tele MC Auto D 135mm f/2.8 M42. Many CAs for about 20 €.

Lens  2  and 3 I still own. I will compare them now side by side. Figure out which you like more. I do love both lenses very much and will keep them.

I did some test shots with my beloved X-E2. I wanted to compare sharpness, colour, contrast and bokeh. All shots are taken on a tripod at ISO200. WB was set to auto (missed to set it manually). I set the focus when lens was open wide and then I stoped down. Didn't use focus peaking (because I don't trust it). All pics are SOOC jpegs with default settings except NR. NR was -2. Subject distance: 3m to the clown and about 13-15m to the background. Something else? Mmmmh... I think that's all. Hope you like it.
Here's a link to the Flickr set: https://www.flickr.com/gp/93978937@N07/3M354q. For further questions feel free to ask!
