No Andreas, I did’t refer to you... I just said because obviously I have had only positive intents in this whole story, but got flack, not from you, for inviting everyone to use caution.

    Keep up the good work.

    Thanks for the explanation!
    Still learning new stuff...

These issues don't apply here: No changefreq parameter given, same priority for all forums, htaccess very short and manually crafted by me

Not a good approach. IP addresses are easy to spoof, easy to obtain different ones, and not a reliable measure at all. It's very likely that you are annoying your real users a lot more than the actual spammers.

Second: even if the whole database of this forum was put in clear on the internet - if you feel less secure due to that, it would be better for you to approach forums more critically: use different passwords everywhere, potentially use different email addresses and/or usernames, be careful with other private information.

And one forum not having seen spam intrusion while another one does isn't indicative to the first applying better measures, it's just as likely that it hasn't been attacked the same way or attacked at all.

Overall, security of a basically public community is a balancing act. You want as many people in as possible but you don't want the wrong ones in. It's cheap today to pay a real person to create accounts in as many forums as possible. There is a whole service industry around spam and it's an arms race between the spammers and the admins of communities. If security and openness get out of balance you end up with systems like the TSA or the Patriot Act. Not something I'd want on public discussion forums.

This is not an unusual thing for forums to get spammers.  In all the forums I've been on, I've never had any issues with spammers getting any of my personal information.  And other than locking the doors and not letting new members in, I know of no way for Andreas to prevent such a thing from happening.

Just relax.  This is a safe environment Andreas has created for us.

I agree that this may help against some dumber spammers.

But in this case this was a well distributed and Turing-tested human driven attack.
Access came from a wide range of IP addresses with a wide variety of email addresses.

I'll disable registration for tonight and will implement more measures tomorrow.

    Sorry.
No, message accepted, fully understood and accepted that such an attack leaves bad taste.

    My priorities right now:

#1 Fight spammers (just deleted another one)

#2 Take measures to keep them out more reliably (will happen today - sunny Sunday outside, sigh...)

#3 Explain to users what's happening.

FX Admin got a reaction from George_P in Disappointed with Fuji X-T1 Firmware 4.0? We have tipps for you...
It doesn’t work, no AF-improvement, it doesn’t focus between each shot in CL or CH, no faster AF in low light! This is some of the negative feedback we could read in the comments on FR and at the Fuji-X-Forum here.

So what… is Firmware 4 just crap? Well, sometimes (often?) it’s just a matter to find the right settings. Patrick has made up an extended list of tipps:

Enable Mechanical Shutter (MS) only. The camera won’t focus between each shot in CL or CH tracking, if ES only (electronic shutter) or MS+ES is enabled. Shooting fast-moving subjects with the ES doesn’t really make sense (rolling shutter effect).

Turn Off Face Detection! If you have Face Detection put to ON, the camera will focus only with CDAF. The faster Phase Detection AF (PDAF) works only if Face Detection is disabled.

High Performance Mode ON: many don’t even know that this features exists, like Calipedro here. It’s definitely worth to sacrifice a bit of battery life. Fuji should put this feature ON as standard.

Keep you subject in the center: Phase detection pixels are located in the center of the sensor. Keep your subject in the center and PDAF will give you a faster AF.

Use all Phase Detection Pixels with Zone AF 5×3: To take advantage of all the phase detection pixels, set you Zone AF box to 5×3 and place it in the center of the frame. Within this 5×3 box tracking will be very smooth… at least that’s my experience with my crazy dog.

Increase the size of the AF-box: If you use Single Point AF, increase the size of the AF-box as much as possible.

PRE-AF: The camera will continuously adjust focus, even if the shutter is not pressed (of half pressed). This can help to get the first shot in focus quicker. Downside: more battery drain.

LENS FIRMWARE: make sure that your Fujinon lens is updated to the latest firmware version.

Different Lens, Different results: According to the lens you use, the AF-improvement will be more or less (or not) visible. For example, I was very happy with the improvement of my 55-200, but I can’t really say if the 18-55 or 14 has become faster.

The learning curve: Practice and get used to the new features. See what works best in which situation

Let Rico study for you. Rumors has it, that Rico will update his X-T1 book and tell us how to make the best out of our new Fuji X-T1 FW 4. Once it’s out, all we have to do is to read his updated book.

So, do you have more tips? Then share them below!

TriggerTrap looks good but it's not wireless. Wish they'd implement that.

Not all intervalometers for Canon will work on Fuji. I have several remotes/timers that don't work on the Fuji but work on Canon. I would definitely go for one that are labelled as for Fuji.  I use this on my X-T! and it works really well: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003TDYU1U?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage

    Hi Everyone,

First post here.    I live in Japan, close to Tokyo.   I was walking around Shimbashi the other night and had the good fortune to look up in time to see this nice sunset happening right above me.    I pushed the process much harder then I normally would, but considering this is an abstract I hope it's not to garish..
