a marigold by any other name.... ;)  :) ... would be a calendula!

The noise is really very very high indeed, was it something you wanted (1600 ISO)?

Perhaps a little enthusiastic processing?

you  could bring it down a little  if you wanted with Google NIK D fine

Milandro, thanks it is a heavy crop which has accentuated the grain, something I didn’t take into account. The ISO of 1600 was to up the shutter speed. An example of too much haste spoils the broth so to speak, I must learn to slow down and be less gung ho, a good object lesson.

Mike, I’ve never heard that the crop that you’ve done, on its own, can augment noise. You should have plenty to crop from your 24MP. This image is 258Kb.

Unless this was 1% part of the total surface when you shot it. Then it might.

Anyway processing certainly can. I’d suggest to give the NIK suite (free) a try. As you can see I did this from the picture that you published here and managed (did nothing else than putting it through the automatic engine) to get quite a bit of noise out.

I am extremely happy with it.
