Improved Shutter Speed Dial Operation

Recommended Posts

I've just read this in the FW 4.0 description:

1) Improved Shutter Speed Dial operation
When the Shutter Speed Dial is set to T and the Shutter Type to Mechanical + Electronic, you can use the command dial to set a full range of exposure times from 30-1/32000sec.

Now, isn't this great? I think it's fantastic that we now have a choice to control the shutter speed with the top plate dial (retro style) or with the command dial (DSLR style)
Now for the complete happiness all we need is an ability to control aperture with the other command dial on lenses that don't have a fixed-stop aperture ring. I'm talking about 18-55 F2.8-4, 10-24 F4 etc. Aperture ring on these lenses doesn't have any markings or hard stops, so why not duplicate it's functionality with a command dial for a full DSLR-like control?
Can we bring the message to Fuji to include command dial aperture control to the next FW update?

I don't see the point...

Neither the command dial will have any markings or hard stops, so why this can be an improvement over the aperture ring?

I much prefer setting the aperture with the thumb of my right hand, rather than with the left hand.

As a 10-24 owner, I'd appreciate being able to control aperture on one of the dials. While I love being able to control aperture on the lenses I have that feature a marked range (23, 50-140), I find the aperture ring on the 10-24 to be loose and unenjoyable. I already have to look at the evf/lcd to see where my aperture is at, and I'd rather do that on a dial which makes it quicker and more accurate.

I think this would add confusion for users, given most lenses have marked aperture rings.

How so if the photographer would have to enable that feature? Also it wouldn’t be any more confusing than setting the shutter speed with a thumb wheel when the camera features a dedicated shutter speed dial.
