I know this is a daft question, as to why I would want to, but is it possible to disable the Q button.

Restricted right hand so I keep catching the button with my thumb, hence the question

Me too!  The Q button is exactly where I put my thumb.  I have everything on the FN buttons so I don't need the Q.  I hope someone knows how to disable it.  I'm tired of seeing that screen instead of my picture.

There is already a thread on "Q-menu  button annoyance" that covers your question.

 

I can add that when you lock the Q-button (which also locks the menu button) you change one irritant for another.  When locked and you hit the Q-button accidentally, you get a lock icon in the middle of the screen.  Not much better, to me and you have lost the menu button until you unlock it.

 

My reply in the other thread works best for me; just push the shutter button a little and the Q-menu goes away.
