Fuji lens profiles and more in ON1 update

Hi All,

I just posted an article and review for Fuji users of ON1's .5 update to Photo Raw 2017. They gave me a near-final pre-release and the "golden master" is coming in a few days.

Among other great improvements for Fujifilm users are Fuji lens profiles, the ability to create your own lens corrections, new sharpening much better suited to X-Trans, and more!

It isn't everything for every Fuji user but I tell it the way I see it and I think there are still many great improvements for us Fujifilm users. Check it out. In case the embedded link doesn't work here is the actual url http://joelwolfson.com/new-fuji-features-improvements-on1-update/

Enjoy,

Joel

Interesting, because that's just what still is missing in MacPhun Luminar. Might be time for a change . . . .

I actually love the interface on Luminar. However, the last time I tried it in a comparison with other raw processors it didn't fare too well with Fuji X-Trans. Their last update went a little overboard in the other direction- that is a very over-processed/over-sharpened look. Also if you applied more than a couple adjustments it became time consuming as it took 5-6 sec. for each layer/filter/adjustment to render the effect and every time you adjust a slider you have to wait for a redraw. It's also hard to compare it to more comprehensive workflow tool like ON1 Photo Raw. Photo Raw has great performance and they are definitely dedicated to serving Fuji users.

I'm looking forward to Luminar updates and hope they will address the Fuji X-Trans processing at some point.

An update- good timing. Luminar just came out with a new update that does a nice job of processing X-Trans. BUT you have to use the right kind of sharpening (I provide a custom preset in my article I just posted about it yesterday.) The other consideration is that Luminar doesn't yet have lens profiles so if you want to process raw then you may have to do some corrections on your own. All that said, I personally think Luminar is worth it just for some of the filters even if you process your raws in ON1 or elsewhere first. They also have a good deal going right now and you can find a coupon code in my article as well to bring the price down farther.  Cheers, Joel
