Flash Function & Aperture Setting Grayed out

How do I get into flash function and aperture settings? They are both grayed out and I can't seem to figure out why.

What camera are you talking about? You must be in ME shutter mode only if you are talking about an X-T2! And also NOT in silent mode!

I have the XT1.

I checked and my sound and flash are ON.

Check shutter is set to mechanical and not to electronic or mechanical/electronic!

Flash is disabled with any or all of the following:

• Electronic shutter (ES or MS+ES)
• Continuous drive modes CH or CL
• Bracketing drive mode BKT
• Panorama drive mode
• Sound and Flash Off

I don't know exactly what you mean by "aperture setting." The only "aperture setting" I know of is only used when you have a lens mounted that doesn't have an aperture ring. That would be either of the XC budget-priced lenses, or the XF 27mm f/2.8 pancake lens.

It's set to mechanical only no electronic.

Thanks Doug for explaining the aperture setting. As for the Flash function I am not in any of those and flash/sound is ON.
