Possible to disable Advanced Filter?

Recommended Posts

On a few occasions I've accidentally enabled the Advanced Filter mode (via the Drive button).

Never once have I wanted to do this intentionally, and it always seems to happen when I'm either half frozen and brain dead (i.e.: shooting in freezing conditions on a snowy mountain) or at a wedding when the bride is about to walk down the aisle.  In both scenarios you're staring at the camera a little perplexed and trying to figure out why none of the manual controls are working as they should.

So, how the F do I disable this lovely "feature"?!?!

Another ruined photo (taken by some rando at the top of the mountain, I wasn't even aware of the problem until I got home - and no, there isn't a raw file to work from either):

There is a way to disable some functions I am not sure that you can completely disable the workings of the entire multifunctional dial controlling the whole of the advanced filters. Check the one before last of the Functions menu .

Only once I had this happening with the dial and it went on continuous shooting. If you leave in in some obvious advanced filter (like black and white with a color filter) you will immediately see that It goes there .

I never anymore set any function  ( continuous or advanced) off unintentionally though. Once bitten twice shy I suppose.

You can reassign the button. I changed the function of the button so it is less likely to be accidentally changed. I had managed to do the same. Fortunately I was only wondering around the streets of Indy where I have been many times so it wasn't a big loss.

Edit: I actually reassigned the white balance which some how seems to get adjusted on its own as well. You could reassign the drive button, but then it would be more difficult to change from single, continueous, and bracketing. I honestly wish they wouldn't include some of these features on the upper end bodies, but I guess someone would complain that the competition offers these amazing filters.

The advanced filter function operates on the jpeg creation doesn't it? If then you set raw + jpeg you've got the original that can still be converted in the camera.

No, that's the most idiotic thing about it... Turning on the advanced filters disables RAW recording on Fuji cameras (with other brands the filters affect the JPEG, but you still get the RAW...)

it is not a button that needs being reassigned but the whole left hand dial (which has several controls) which needs being blocked.

It is possible to do this, I’ve just checked.

OP do this if you want to solve the problem.

In the function menu ( the one with the spanners) the third menu has a Function Lock submenu, you can lock there a number of functions, also this one.

FIRST t! you need to activate the function lock. Then you go back one step and you select the function that you want locked.

Run though the menu.

You select Drive Dial and now ALL the functions of the drive dial are locked.

Yes, it is a curse ( and I did my bit to warn others ! )

Interesting potential remedy suggested but its unclear what else will be affected.

Wouldn't it be great if a Firmware update gave us the ability to disable the Advanced Filter simply ?

Any chance, Fujifilm ?

Not everyone has experienced the “ obvious flaw”. I for one have never but one time turned it unintentionally and it went to CL.

Since firmware 3 update , I believe, it has been possible to exclude the working of this by using the procedure described.

So, obviously they provided a way to prevent this.

Again Fuji is not in the habit of taking part to this or any other forum to explain themselves.

If you don’t want to risk doing this by mistake do the procedure as described.

Hi, Milandro: Am trying to lock or otherwise disable the Advanced Filter function. Your directions say to go to the function menu (the one with spanners, whatever those are!). Third option has a Function Lock submenu. But first, you say to activate function lock. Then go back one step and select the function that you want locked. Select Drive Dial and now ALL the functions of the drive dial are locked.

Sounds good, but I can't find the Function Menu and submenu and don't know what spanners are. Have found Function Setting via Display Back, but no further submenu. Can you please direct me? Thanks. Lorraine Gracey

The spanners menu is the many with as a symbol a spanner .

I don’t know how to be clearer. I’ll try with a picture. See the spanner at the bottom? That is the Spanner menu.

You really need to familiarize yourself with the camera functions. Go through them one by one. Read the manual or at the very least watch some You tube tutorials.

Probably a language difference.  In American English, the bottom three icons are wrenches.

I agree with the recommendation to read the manual.

When I have something complex (from cameras to cars), I read the manual the day I get it and reread it again after I have been using the item for a few days or weeks.

HOW TO GET OUT OF THE ADVANE FILTER WITH X100F!!

I HAVE A X100F. I WENT TO THE DRIVE BUTTON AND USED THE ADVANCE FILTER.  I COULDN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO GET BACK TO THE NORMAL SETTINGS.  I FINALLY FOUND IT AFTER MANY HOURS ONLINE.  I WENT BACK TO THE DRIVE MODE BUTTON.  I HIT "STILL"  IT FINNALLY WENT BACK TO NORMAL!  I CAN'T UNDERSTAND WHY THE YOUTUBE VIDEO NEVER EXPLAINED THIS. I COULDN'T EVEN FIND IN THE MANUAL.
