JPEG color rendition through X-Trans evolution

Hello everyone,

As a newcomer here and a future Fuji owner, I would like to know what you think about the recent debate concerning the camera JPEG color rendition.

Do you think that camera JPEG color rendition evolved from the X-Pro 1 to nowadays?

If so, do you think that this evolution is a regression? Is it any kind of "loss of magic" in X-Trans III cameras?

I wonder, because of that, If I should take the X-T10 or the X-T20 (I don't have enouth time to post-process and now want to shoot JPEG only).

Thank you by advance!

I can't speak to the evolutionary question, but one reason I bought the X-T10 is the JPEG renditions of the various film simulations. It should be noted, though, that you can't get a "straight" JPEG -- there's always some film simulation applied, even if it's the default Provia. For people who want "accurate" rather than "pleasing" images, that disqualifies the Fujifilm JPEGs.

As to the X-T20, I don't know of any rumors of such a model, and I'm not convinced there will be one at all. The X-T10 was a step-child of the X-Trans II family, produced in Thailand instead of Japan. And it caused significant confusion to buyers, who had to try to decide between the X-T1 and X-T10. I'm not sure that Fujifilm wants to get into that again. But you never know what Fujifilm will do. On the other hand, whatever they do, you can count on it showing up on FujiRumors at least a couple of months before any announcement, which will probably be another couple of months before availability.

Hello Hermann, personaly I don't understand all this "magic" business. I just love Fuji X much more than other photo-ecosystems. Love it's colors sim., handling, IQ, love it's look. What about color rendition evolving... well yes, it might vary from sensor to sensor, but not to that extend to scary me.

The magic probably comes from people being stuck in a rut for years with their big cameras that they barely use, only to then discover a camera system they can literally take everywhere. You hear it all the time in the arguments for the 35 1.4 too. I think colour rendition between lenses and cameras with Fuji is very controlled, only minor differences in warmth in general. My old batch of Canon L's was all over the place when it came to colour rendition.
