Fujifilm X40 rumors

Can't say I'm too upset the X10/20/30 series was just a little too bulky for me.  My ideal for is Canon's S100/110/120 series.  The fit in my button flap shirt pocket and are not too heavy.  Canon's new G9X just  fits into this niche but has a 1" sensor.

That said if Fuji wants to attach this market segment ("fits in my pocket but unlike my iPhone is a real camera") they could try something does not exceed the vweight or dimensions of the G9X but X-Tran-ize the 1" sensor.  And Fuji-ize the controls.  That would be something that I would make it practical to have a camera every time I step out the door.

I like the range the x30 covers, but since i am happy carrying the XT10 everywhere i go, i just know i'd never use it.

I was thinking making the jump from Canon to the X-T2 or (the more money friendly) X-T1.  But the more I look at the X-T10, the more I think THAT would be a good move and focus on getting a few lens before buying the X-T1 (or X-T2 down the road a bit).

I've never had an issue with the XT-10

I remapped the bottom right function button from wifi to iso on day 1, so I could alter aperture, shutter speed, and iso without entering a menu (the function button still accesses wifi in playback mode)

For me this is an easy work around or the lack of iso dial

The other differences I decided were not worth the extra ££££ (slightly bigger evf, faster sd card speed supported/bigger buffer, and Weather resistance)

But, only you can decide whether the extras for you are worth the additional costs.

Good luck with whatever you decide

I do think Fujifilm should think about an interchangeable lens system between 1" and 1/2" for the next generation size-down. Certainly the P&S market is difficult as 1/1.6 and 1/1.7 camera modules proliferate in cell phones and tablets but there is a market for super-zooms and sensors will continue improving. A quality interchangeable lens system where owners can change bodies periodically with sensor and feature updates is a good way of capturing repeat customers who cannot get the same photo quality from cell-phones, P&S, and premium compact systems.

There may be synergy in that sensor size range to capture some of the C-mount market.

Just thinking 5-10 years out, here.

I ended up going with a used graphite X-T1.  I ran into a tourist who was using the X-T10 and when I asked her how she liked it, she said that she wished she had bought the X-T1 as she's always worried about getting it wet.  lol  I'd be the same way (a bit of a worrier) so I thought spending the extra bit was worth it.

I'm off to Canada tomorrow where I have a new 35mm F2 and 16mm awaiting me at my cousin's (cheaper to buy them over there on sale than here in the UK).

It doesn’t surprise me a bit that Fuji is abandoning this line of products ( while it does surprise me to read that anyone found the X10/20/30 bulky since they were absolutely “ petit” in my hands!).

http://www.fujirumors.com/low-sales-fujifilm-x30-71th-ps-digital-camera-ranking/

Fuji is clearly re-adjusting their “ sights” for a better aim after the tentative introduction of several cameras and concentrating on the segments were they seem to have an edge over other companies.

Despite the merits of these cameras they failed to impress the market by and large and sales were disappointing. I loved my X-10 and would have certainly liked the X-30 or a 40 but in the end I sold it in favor of a second X body ( bought at almost the same price that I’ve sold my X-10).

Also they have to be careful in producing cameras that aren’t actually in the way of other models. After the X-100T and the X70 one would expect a X camera with an integrated zoom lens in the range that the X-10-30-30 had but with a larger sensor and all the modern firmware attributes, but making one of these would put such a camera in direct competition with a camera with interchangeable lens and a kit of lenses.

Not good for the business.

Milandro (and Fujifilm),

Taking the next step in the integrated zoom lens range of X-10, 20, 30 cameras to an X40 model with a larger sensor, modern FW attributes, etc...would NOT put the X40 in direct completion with the X-100 or X70 for one major reason: The PSAM dial on top of the consumer range is not on the X-100/X70 range.

I started with an X10. Totally loved the retracting manual zoom and fast shooting capability, but jumped to the X70 for the larger sensor and 180 flip-up screen. Turns out I have had a hard time taking low light shots, or clear fast action shots with the X70.  I loved the ultra compact X70, but with only a shutter speed dial on top, I can not use it. (it requires more adjusting than just the shutter speed to get good photos.) I need that photo setting dial on top to choose my environment/ subject mode. It's often life and death for getting a good photo.

But each of those two cameras (X10, 20, 30 - X70) have elements that if combined, would cover a big gap in upper end consumer cameras, but would not tread on the X-100/X70 line.  All they have to do, is increase the sensor size in an X40, include the optical viewfinder, and add the 180 flip-up screen. That way, it would be a camera with the PSAM dial on top (including the specialty modes, low light, sport action, custom, etc), which in my use is utterly necessary.  I doubt they are putting in a collapsable optical zoom lens in the rumored X80. Even if they did, there still is no PSAM dial on top the camera; that end of the camera model range does not want PSAM dials anyhow.

So yes, there is a gap. I just hope they fill it soon.

Wow, I am mentioned in the same boat as Fuji..., I just wish I was adopted by mr. Fuji ( Japanese entrepreneurs do this a lot if they have no male heirs, they adopt the husband of their daughters).

Fuji has most certainly determined that they don’t have a market big enough in this market segment which is simply being swamped by the phone cameras.

They have only lost money with it and they don’t want to compete with themselves since they have cameras as small as the X 10-20-30. They are pushing a different agent.

I don’t think they will return on their steps.

    • I'm having trouble finding a way to attach a right-angle viewfinder to the Fuji X-H1 camera. Does anyone have experience with how the angle viewfinder behaves in combination with the EVF? Is the Minolta frame diameter of the right angle viewfinder suitable for attaching to the Fuji XH1 (or XT1, 2, 3, 5)? Does anyone have knowledge about which eyepiece is compatible with the Fuji X system? Thank you in advance for any assistance and information you can provide.
    • I purchased a gently used XF 80mm f/2.8 aspherical macro for my X-T5. Not being familiar with this lens but having had experience with the Leica T mount 60mm macro and Canon and Zeiss macros, I was surprised that I felt what might be best described as a loose lens element that shifted when I tilted the lens, even before being mounted to the camera. In manual focus mode, the lens is fine, but there is a distinct “wobble” when the lens is in autofocus mode. I reported this to the company (I bought it from KEH), and they agreed this was odd and accepted it back for a full refund. I just got a replacement lens and the same thing is happening. I’ve never had an experience in which I feel a lens element loose inside the housing. Is this normal? Should I return it (again)?
    • Old post but hope this can help. You have to make sure that exp. comp. is set to zero in P, S or A mode before you go in to manual mode. If the comp is set to, let say +5, and this is of the range for the settings in manual mode, twisting the comp dial (left dial) want do any changes.
