Combination of MCEX16, TC1.4 and 90mm f2

I have been thinking, if a combination of the MCEX16, the TC 1.4 and the 90mm would be usefull as a macro.

I know that the TC will not fit the 90mm. Don't try it, it could damage the lens. With an MCEX16 inbetween it is a different story, though:

This is a sample of only the 90mm at shortest focus distance:

Now let's see a shot with the MCEX 16:

And finally 90mm, MECEX16, TC1,4:

I like the result. What do you think? The magnification should be 0.4 with the MCEX 16mm and 0,56 when adding the TC. It should probably work with other Fuji lenses as well.

Regards, Dieter

In all honesty, it's not that bad at all, since the 90 is already one of the sharpest lens we have currently the extra macro tube and TC doesn't seems to be impacting the performances too much.

Did you adjusted the loss of light in post or are all these SOOC Jpegs ?

The pics are SOOC. All shot at f8 and ISO3200 on a tripod. It was a quick test in remaining daylight. I did move the cactus and changed the angle of the camera to position the cactus in the picture. No post processing. AF was on the "white dot." In the EXIF you will see that the timing went down from 1/50s to 1/25s with MCEX and TC. I will probably do some more examples next weekend.

Not bad at all.

I had the same idea with MCEX and TC, it obviously enough, but unfortunately I don't have neither tube nor TC, so didn't tried it. lol.

Did you have only one MCEX tube? May be 16+11+TC also is a working combo...

Yes, I only have 16mm MCEX tube.

So I ran into this thread while looking for samples of the 90mm with the MCEX-16 extension.  The 1.4 TC is just icing on the cake.  Thanks for the comparisons.  But seeing the price of the 1.4 TC it's almost better to just buy a manual macro lens with true 1:1 magnification it seems.  Bummer, I was hoping for a all Fujifilm solution.  Was really looking forward to the 120 f2.8 macro till Fuji dropped it :(.

    • I purchased a gently used XF 80mm f/2.8 aspherical macro for my X-T5. Not being familiar with this lens but having had experience with the Leica T mount 60mm macro and Canon and Zeiss macros, I was surprised that I felt what might be best described as a loose lens element that shifted when I tilted the lens, even before being mounted to the camera. In manual focus mode, the lens is fine, but there is a distinct “wobble” when the lens is in autofocus mode. I reported this to the company (I bought it from KEH), and they agreed this was odd and accepted it back for a full refund. I just got a replacement lens and the same thing is happening. I’ve never had an experience in which I feel a lens element loose inside the housing. Is this normal? Should I return it (again)?
