Seiko Epson Corporation (TSE: 6724, "Epson") today announced that it has recently begun shipping its latest high-resolution Ultimicron panels for electronic viewfinders (EVF). The new panels boast the highest resolution among volume-produced products for digital camera EVFs*

Epson has continued to refine the performance of its Ultimicron panels with the aim of achieving the natural and beautiful images required by quality EVFs. Measuring 0.66 inches diagonally, the new Ultimicron boasts resolution of 4.41-million dots (SXGA+ (1400 x RGB x 1050)) - approximately double the resolution of conventional XGA products - and provides camera manufacturers with greater optical design flexibility, for example lens selection or magnification ratio. By expanding the color gamut by about 30% compared with existing products, Epson has allowed users to adjust the screen to their preferred color. These specifications translate into a natural viewfinder that precisely meets the needs serious camera users.

I hope I remember right, but isn't the X-T1 panel 0.5"? This would make the new one 30% bigger.

I could understand, that this would be problematic with the X-E3 or even X-Pro2.

But it's very likely we are looking at the panel of the X-T2 viewfinder here!

If I remember right, this new panel should be capable of 120fps. With a new, fast read out sensor this could eliminate viewfinder lag and blackout.

Those things (together with for example a second SD card slot or an Joystick for AF point selection) are much more important to me than ISO128000 and other stuff.  (Image quality is quite good already, ease of use is more important)

Hmm... Still think it's a bit late, usually by this time of camera manufacturing the development is already done and they are preparing the factories for production and getting all the materials.

It would be rather costly to suddenly change to another component since all the contracts have been signed and agreements are already in place.

Maybe X-T2 ? Or another following model but we are a bit too close of X-Pro2 announcement to have changes applied to it.
