Hi Guys,

I just brought the Fuji xt10. I get a black screen when pressing the picture review button using an external flash when shooting in manual mode. I have a shoot coming up on Thursday and this is embarrassing. What am I doing wrong?

Can anyone advise me on this issue please?

Sorted.

A couple quick thoughts:

1. Your shutter speed needs to be 1/180 or slower and you could be very under-exposed -- check aperture and flash power output.

2. Screen set up preview exp in manual mode to on

3. I didn't realise the Fuji camera cannot do high speed sync as yet.

If you are viewing the LCD before taking the photo and it is appearing black, you are looking at what the image would look like if you took the photo with the current setting. It does not account for the light contributed by the flash. To disable this feature go to the Setup menu page 1 and choose Screen Setup then set Preview exp in manual mode to OFF.

If you are previewing the LCD after taking the photo, the manual setting you picked underexposes the image severely. Increase the ISO, use slower shutter speed, move the flash closer to the subject  or increase the output of the flash.
