RUMOR: XF 35mmF2 WR will cost less than the current XF35mmF1.4 (SRP)

If that is the case there will be an interesting double or even triple knock-on effect on the market.

Introducing any new product makes people sell older products thus increasing the number of secondhand products on the market and lowering their secondhand price, introducing a cheaper new product will also make these even cheaper ( to be able to still be attractive and be sold) thus in the long run putting the new product under pressure.

Best thing to do is wait after the introduction of the new cheaper product, there will be lots of older and replaced for no goo reason 35mm on the market and the new one will be probably, after a short period, when the novelty has warn out, be discounted to keep on selling more than the secondhand older ones.

This is a gold mine for people studying marketing!

It is hard to believe that 35/2 will be cheaper than 35/1.4, because 35/1.4 is one of the cheapest X mount lenses anyway, and because 35/2 is going to be WR and almost certainly will acquire better (newer generation) AF motor.

The 50mn equivalent have always been rather cheap to produce, the Nikkor 50 F1.4 is cheaper than our XF 35mm F1.4 by around 15-20%. True is plasticky but if you follow the trend, the Nikkor 50 F1.8 is barelly half the price of the F1.4 version, so it is not so unreasonable to think that the XF 35 F2 WR would be cheaper than the F1.4 version.
